A day late and a dollar short.... what can I say? ;)
I hope all the Fathers out there had good days yesterday. My hubby didn't get as spoiled as he could have. That's partly my fault. I kept thinking Father's Day was next Sunday, not yesterday. Oh well. I'm definitely not perfect. Dh got his Father's Day gift early this year. He purchased a Toneau cover for his truck bed. I had the privilege of assisting with the installation. I don't mind working side by side with my hubby, but we have that whole "men think like ___ this, women think like ____ that" issue. He asks for a certain size wrench or tool or socket, and I have to translate it into "oh yeah, the whatchamacallit that we used to put together xy or z".
We still haven't sold the house. (sigh). I think the Lord is teaching me patience. I don't think I am getting a "passing grade" on this one. (bigger sigh).

At any rate, we have the movers coming next week to pack our house and ship it off. We can store our things for 90 days. We will be leaving a week from Friday to visit with the Grandparents in IL. The following Sunday dh and I will head down to NC and our new duty station to check into a motel and start looking for a place to live. Since our house here isn't sold (praying that changes before we leave) we will have a very reduced amount we can spend for rent. We will probably be renting out our home here as well.
I have been researching the new area and have found that to get the schools we would like our kids in, we will have a bit of a commute (20 min or so) to Post. With gas on the upward climb, I am going to have to be very frugal in my trips and spending. I hope to have a garden next spring/summer as well. I am hoping there will be some ladies in our new area that can show me "hands on" how to can veggies/food. I learn best with someone showing me how, or at least supervising me while I try. I really wish I had paid attention to what my Mom tried to teach me before she died. I am not sure if she knew how to can, but she could cook well. I wasn't interested, and then she passed away when I was 9. Lots of missed opportunities there. I am trying to make up for it now, with friends, mentors and my own children. I would love to see my country get back to the old fashioned ways of doing things. Not sure that will happen on a large scale, but I can hope.
For your viewing pleasure here is a video I found from the 1940's. (US) I don't necessarily agree with all the pesticide use they suggested, but then we know now that those "super chemicals" weren't quite so super in the long run. I do understand the need to control pests though. Enjoy!
