INTRODUCING THE GARY FONG LIGHTSPHERE UNIVERSAL
AND THE GARY FONG ORIGAMI DIFFUSERS!

At the Javits Center in New York City, we will have my newest products available for sale.
The collapsible, fold-flat diffuser "The Origami" which straps on tightly to ANY flash and uses the tremendously successful "Whaletail" reporter flap.  This flap swings in the light path to warm the ceiling, or out of the way to give a perfectly soft diffuse ratio to your subject.  Best of all it folds flat to a pocket just bigger than an i-phone.  $29.95, or $34.95 with an extra amber flap.

Secondly, we will have the brand new Lightsphere Universal.

Basically I've heard what many of you have said that you wished could improve on the Lightsphere, and that's the grip.  So I've incorporated the latest, Patent-pending "Whaletail" grip base (remember, kung fu grip) with the Lightsphere shape you've all known and loved. $49.95

I am not doing a mailing because we only have less than 1,000 units of each available at the show, and they will not be on the e-store or at your retailers for at least another three to five weeks.  Think holiday season!

Very nice!

Are you going to make a clear Lightsphere with the new grip too?

For the photography I do, I get better results with the clear one more often than the cloudy one, which is one reason I haven't been using the whaletail at all.

I wouldn't mind also seeing a clear lightsphere dome too one day :)

dude, that's freaking awesome. do you have any idea how much easier and faster it will be to sell a universal mount in the booth? no more holding up to the light-"missy, is that a P4?"

talk and laugh, talk and laugh.

Also...

I know Nikon intended this for another purpose. But I've used it as a Diffuser on my D70.

Acts like your Puffer

I agree. Can we get a clear lightsphere w/ kung-fu grip? I love mine and rarely use the cloud. Clear top. I might use that a lot. I shoot in a venue with 80 foot white ceilings all the time. The clear lightsphere is absolutely my fave. Thanks Gary.
PS... to all you weenies who complain about the lightsphere falling off. I simply push mine on a little further than the guide and it never falls of. Also what ever happened to all the diehard gaff-tape junkies. If I ever had to worry about doing gymnastics and shooting at the same time, I would just tape it on. Although, when kung-fu grip is available... I'll probably buy it.
cheers!

Let's see, $49.95 for $.25 worth of plastic. Now that's what I call entrepreneurism!

Ron, many people asked me for a "travel" diffuser that would easily be packed yet give soft lighting. The difference between my diffusers and other reflectors is the definition of a diffuser. A diffuser makes light travel in all directions by passing through an opaque surface. A reflector makes all the light "bounce". There are bounce cards, bouncers and reflectors. I've never liked the quality of those when compared to a diffuser.

This is why all of my products are diffusers, not reflectors. And all of my pro-products (not the "Puffer") are the only products that are diffusers with an "open" top for full, unblocked intensity to the ceiling.

We just wanted to share some images with you of a videographer using the LS-cloud on his videolight. We thought it was a neat idea. We met Joe from www.magdalenavideo.com this past Saturday's wedding and he said it helps make his video light softer and not so harsh. It was nice to not see people squinting when the videocamera came around! Have you ever thought of marketing this product to videographers? This new universal one might work well for them...

Ok now my wife really isn't going to like you with the post, and me. All I can say is sweet, can't wait for it. Now I am really going to have to open up a Lightshpere Hall of Fame to display all mine. Great new products and upgrade.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SEE A VIDEO TEST SHOOT?
I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO AN ALL AROUND FLASH COVERED FOLD-ABLE ORIGAMI...

MAYBE IN THE WORKS?

SEEMS ALOT OF LIGHT WILL BE SPILLED ELSEWHERE SINCE THE SIDE FLAPS ARE SO SMALL.

AND HEY! I REMEMBER YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT NEW "SOFTWARE" BEING RELEASED...

WIATING WAITING WAITING!

YAY!

P.S. I TOO WOULD LIKE A CLEAR LIGHTSPHERE WITH THE KUNG-FU GRIP, I LOVE MY ORIGINAL CLOUD BUT MY WHAIL TAIL DOES ITS JOB BEST.

Dude...you've got a kung-fu grip on my wallet (LOL)...really a mixed message with your "save for a rainy day" posts.  So for those of us who are trying to live more frugally at your recommendation...when is the first special sale going to happen??  Just keep in mind...it's a new flash diffuser for me or new shoes for my kids.  (hmmm...maybe I can get them used shoes...or make some shoes out of all my old diffusers... )

Dan, i hear that old tires make cool shoes. good for the soles esp in michigan with all the salt in the winter.

Sandy...I think what we need are transluscent crocs -- kinda like these -- should be much better than old tires for softening light.  By day the kids can wear and play in them (at the beach, in the park, at the pool), while at night...mom and dad can slip them off and use them as diffusers.  The good news is...crocs come in pairs...so it's like buy 1, get 1 free diffusers!!!

dan the only problem with the crocs, besides the fact that they are SUPER ugly is the darn holes in them..light would be going everywhere. I think Garys diffuser would work better, just buy 4 of his and let your kids wear them at the beach, in the park and at the pool..i think that would be fabulous..he might do buy 1 get 1 at 50% off...come on Gary whatcha say for the beer man?

Very Cool

Um Gary, I was thinking, not too often, anyway how are you going to cover the lawsuits when you get sued for advertising holding the camera by the flash/diffuser? Um the flash shoe WILL come off and or loosen to where the flash wont work anymore..Um i know from first hand experience!

you have a disclaimer or something...

I just bought the Clear Universal for my Canon 430EX. But I had to mount the LS further away from flash in order to keep the flash locked when I shoot vertical. (the velcro strap and the plastic is too thick). That leaves a big gab between the LS & flash head. Do you have a spacer for the Universal LS like the one in whale tail?
