Children and the Easter story...

Some of my grandchildren that live nearby will be coming tomorrow to color eggs for our Easter celebration.  I'm still trying to figure out how our nation evolved from celebration the resurrection of Christ to coloring eggs and hunting for them? How does the Easter bunny, eggs and baby chicks fit into the crucifixion? I just don't get it! Yet, I'm as guilty as the next one. I just fell in line with what I had done as a child. I look back now and wish that I had found another way to celebrate Easter that reflected the true meaning of our Savior's death and resurrection.

I tried hard to find something of value to give my grands for Easter that would reflect the true meaning of Easter.  I visited the dollar stores and Walmart and the grocery store. Aisle after aisle were filled with nothing but eggs and baby chicks. Christ is being squeezed out of Christmas and now Easter. How sad!

So, I'll be dragging out my flannel graph board to share with the grandchildren the real reason we are celebrating Easter. We'll also use our resurrection eggs where each egg will tell part of the Easter story.

Here is a fun link with lots of fun teaching ideas.

I'm thankful for the holidays! I'm thankful to have another opportunity to talk to my grandchildren about Jesus!

RYC-I made chicken soup this week and I've been eating it all week. Still having the nausea come back on and off. I subed to a Low Gylcemic Index group on yahoo and am trying to learn more about that.

Have fun with your little ones and Happy Easter.

RYC-What did you do for the crust? I'll have to look for that sweetener. I'm using the Stevia, but I would like to try other options. No I'm not sick from the meds. we have all been sick. I guess it's some kind of virus. It's one of those kind that keeps coming back. So I'm still having periods of some nausea most days. So far today I'm doing good. Are you getting lots of rain like we are today? It is going to be a wet Easter. I'm getting all kinds of links from this GI group, I don't have time to really read them all so far, but I noticed there are several that are recipes. I'll let you know if any look good.

Georgene, I'm having 37 here for Easter Dinner. Believe it or not I'm not making a single dish!!!!!!!!!!!!!The family said since I'm hosting it here they would organize the food and bring it all in. I will serve coffee and I am serving butter, salt and pepper. Have you ever heard the likes?
I plan to have my camera all ready for many pictures to post again.

i so agree with you about easter ( i like to call it resurrection sunday).  what we are doing  to show our 6 children the true meaning of the day is not buying bunnies( they r a symbol of fertility that the goddess easteras (spelling?)  that is the easter celebration.  we buy chocolate lambs instead ( i hate buying the candy regardless) so we celebrate PASSOVER and JESUS as the lamb.  we do the resurrection eggs too, read the true story every day of the week  from a different book and the like.  i love your idea of the flannel board!
