It's that time of year again when I should be focusing on my studies but I find time to do all kinds of other time wasting activities like writing in this journal...or having my car explode...

    Back up a bit...

So my roommate from undergrad came up to visit me for the weekend on her way to NYC, Boston and DC.  SO fun.  We went out, dinner etc. etc.  SO.  On the way home from the mall yesterday my car refused to accelerate.  I was pushing the gas TO THE FLOOR and the car WAS NOT MOVING.  I pull over to the side of the road (we are now 2 blocks from my house) and I turn the car off.  Just needed a little break you know?  I turn the car back on and it slowly chugs up the hill and I turn onto the street parallel to mine.  Now the smoke is billowing over the hood.  NOT A BIG DEAL-->been there done that a few cars back.

THEN I look again and there is so much smoke I can't even see the road! PLUS a few men from the neighborhood are now running behind my car screaming FIRE FIRE FIRE!  I pull over and we jump out to see smoke so thick you can't see anything, a small fire under the car and two police officers running towards the car calling in an emergency report.

Shortly thereafter a GIANT RED FIRE TRUCK two police cars and a smaller red fire truck are surrounding my car.  I put a call into AAA (frequently dialed phone number) and I told them my car exploded.  Apparently I needed to be more specific.

Luckily I had showered for the day and was not wearing pajamas.  Plus as a bonus I had just purchased a new pair of shades that my roommate informed me during the middle of this that they were indeed cute.

End of story.  Car is in the shop.  Probably not worth the repair.  I cannot WAIT to not have a CAR or to have enough money that I could have one that works!  I think this is my 4 car this year ALONE!

    GUH!

    Well this is it...

    The beginning of the end.

21 years straight of education has come to this.  Today was my last official day of class.  I had a powerpoint presentation in my last class so I went out with a bang.  Plus I dressed up because my mom used to make me dress up for the first days so I thought I ought to dress up for the last.

So now all I have to pass the bar exam and get a job.

    Hmmm...

Today at school I had to participate in this mock trial thing where we questioned expert witnesses about a child custody evaluation.  I HATE these things.  Seriously makes me want to puke.

Its absurd really when you think about it.  For 4 years I constantly had to stand in front of a group of my peers and professors and completely submit myself to humilation, criticism, judgment and pure unadulterated vulnerability all in the name of my "craft" or whatever.  And now I break out in a sweat spending 10 minutes asking a fake witness to expound on his report and recommendations for the best interest of a child.  Its sick.  I would rather stand there and tap dance in front of these people.

I think the thing that initially drew me to acting was that I could be whomever I wanted when I got on that stage.  In high school it was such a rush to get up there and be someone else.  To take on a personaility  that I never could in real life.  College was even better because we really learned how to draw from deep within ourselves or from our environment in ways I didn't think I could.  Acting always pushed me farther than I thought.  But it always brought you back to reality when the curtain fell.  With law school I feel like I am playing a character all day every day when really, it's my reality.  GUH.  This is getting philisophical sorry!

Sidenote: while I was standing up in court behind the safety of the little podium I suddenly found my legs attempting to double cross themselves...Renee style.  I guess some things do transfer from acting class to law school...

    Guess what?!

My movie would be called "Broke-Down Car".

That's right.  Another entry, another car problem.  I think it's because I didn't name this last one.  None of them have held up as well as good old JELLY.  Geez I loved that car.  Anyway, Triple A is officially on my "frequent contact list" on my phone!

So, last night I'm driving on the Thruway home to my parents house (I was holding Pippin rehearsal) and I swear like 3 miles from my exit I hear this VERY loud popping noise.  I turn down my radio (which was blaring soft rock favorites) and then I notice the large amount of smoke coming out the back of the car and the rattling noise from the engine.  I assume (correctly) this is not good.  Low and behold my oil light is blinking furiously.  I immediatly conjur an image of one of my best friends (Elliot) who always says to me, "Emily oil is the blood running through your car" and how important it is to check...or whatever.  So I (luckily) pull off into the rest stop and as I do I notice my charge light comes on as well.  PERFECT.  I literally ROLLED into that spot between the gas pumps.

After sucessfully putting in 2 things of oil (by myself, thank you very much) I jumped to take off.  AAAAAAAAAND the car won't turn over.  SUPER.  Well, Mom bought me a set of jumper cables for Christmas and I asked the next person coming through to give me a jump.  Seems that the charge is not the problem.  Hmmm.  Oh look.  All the oil I just put in the car is now on the ground under the car.  SUPER.  Long story short, I called the tow truck for the Thruway service and Dad came to switch cars with me (so I could get to rehearsal) and went with my car back home.

So..........now I need another "new" car.  Preferably by Thursday (when I go back for Pippin rehearsal) so I can return the family vehicle to Mom who is currently without one.  Seriously, what would I do without my Mom and Dad!  Not ever having to worry about a car again is some big time motivation for getting a job in NYC.

Needless to say, I spent Valentine's Day driving the red family soccor mom van around the cuse, hit up some work at the office, a little night class, and a gym session with the roommate.  Eventful to say the least!

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! (This is such a great holiday!  I love it!---for real...not being sarastic!  I love love!!!!)
