| A Disciplined Life Brings A Happy Day.From the book that I am reading with my small group, "What is a Healthy Church Member?", chapter 7 called "A Healthy Church Member Seeks Discipline" starts out, "Life needs to be ordered. That's a simple truth too often forgotten or overlooked. In order to thrive and grow, all life needs order" (Anyabwile).
Over the past full two weeks, I've been sleeping around 2-3am every day. Some days because I was studying for midterms, but a lot of the other days because I enjoyed talking to my friends online since so many of them were also up around that time studying or for no other good reason like me.
However, it's the month of November now and I've set some new goals, including sleeping earlier, waking up earlier, exercising, being more mindful and productive with my time, being consistent with my quiet times, and developing a stronger prayer life, which all has to do with a disciplined life!
Today, I felt really happy about how my day went because I am motivated for the time being and I just started the day off really well. If only I continue to sleep earlier, then I can wake up earlier, actually exercise, do my devotions before my classes, actually eat breakfast for once, and read the news. I'm trying to stop being so ignorant about the world outside of my bubble and instead become a news junkie. Anyway, my schedule for today was...
5:30am Woke up 6:15-7:15am Workout at the ARC with Gloria Tong, ran 2.5 miles and did some core/weight workout 7:30-8:00am Shower 8:15-9:15am Quiet time, read 1 John 5:6-13 9:30-9:45am Breakfast and read some news from New York Times online 10:00-10:50am Class 11:00am-1:00pm Lunch at Lee's Sandwiches with Theo, JNoh, Jordan, and Tammy 1:30-2:50pm Class 3:00-5:30pm Studying at Langson Library with Olivia and Tammy 5:30-6:30pm Grocery shopping at Trader Joe's with Olivia and Tammy 6:30-10:00pm Dinner and hangout at my apartment with Olivia and Tammy 8:00-9:00pm Gossip Girl 12:00am Bedtime
Often times, however, my goals last a few days, and I go from really high and disciplined to really low and all over the place in a matter of half a week. I pray that I will persevere in a disciplined life and that ultimately my time will be well-spent for His glory.

| The Blessing of Education.Tonight, I observed an intermediate ESL class for 2.5 hours to complete an observation report assignment for my "Teaching English Internationally" class. It was definitely an interesting experience! The class was filled with adults ranging between 20 to 65 years old from various race and ethnic backgrounds, some of whom just immigrated to America over a month or two ago. It was so encouraging to see how eager these adults were in wanting to learn the English language and how supportive they were in helping each other along this journey. For Halloween, the teacher dressed up as a witch, a student dressed up as Tinkerbell, while another student brought chocolate candy for the class. Generally, I was just surprised how enthusiastic all these adult students were. Often times, I take education for granted, and I am sure there are others who would agree to this point for themselves. Whenever I find a class boring, I still attend lectures because I feel bad about ditching, but I end up not paying much attention while I'm actually sitting in the class. Sometimes it is true that attending lecture is almost meaningless when the professor already posts the lecture notes online and then doesn't end up adding much extra information to the powerpoint. Nevertheless, I am so blessed to have education and I should grow to appreciate it more and more.
Here was a poem included in the ESL teacher's lesson plan for tonight that I really enjoyed...
BE GLAD YOUR NOSE IS ON YOUR FACE by Jack Prelutsky
Be glad your nose is on your face Not pasted on some other place For if it were where it is not You might dislike your nose a lot
Imagine if your precious nose Were sandwiched in between your toes That clearly would not be a treat For you'd be forced to smell your feet
Your nose would be a source of dread Were it attached atop your head It soon would drive you to despair Forever tickled by your hair
Within your ear, your nose would be An absolute catastrophe For when you were obliged to sneeze Your brain would rattle from the breeze
Your nose, instead, through thick and thin Remains between your eyes and chin Not pasted on some other place Be glad your nose is on your face! | | |
