you know, I think I'll update solely for my own benefit. I no longer care if anyone else reads this or leaves comments.
I had my first "official" day of work at Potbelly's yesterday and it actually wasn't that bad. I learned more about sandwiches than I ever wanted to know and my trainer/evaluator, Helen, is really cool. She's a senior just like me and a total punk with purple hair, those really cool pants with the millions of zippers, and a whole lot of fun to be around. We had some very interesting conversations about naked sandwiches and such.
When I went into work, I was hungry, but by the time I was finished with my shift, I was ravenous. It's a lot harder to make food when you want to eat the food you're making for other people.
Another really cool part of working at Potbelly's is that they have a live musician. I didn't even realize the music was live until I looked up into the loft and a guy was there playing his guitar and singing...he came to buy a sandwich later and he was really nice; it turns out it was his first day too!
I asked Helen if people were allowed to hang out "up there"(I meant in the loft) and she started talking about the Asian Invasion until she realized that I wasn't talking about outside the restaurant but in the loft... it was pretty funny!
So, my first day of real work was pretty cool except for the fact that my legs were incredibly tired after standing up for 3 hours straight. Helen told me that that Troy, my manager, actually likes me and I didn't do that bad answering the pop quizzes. Although, I have no idea how I'm supposed to remember what SIDEWAYS stands for. All I know is that under the description for 'D', it says to throw a pickle. Two words. NO. WAY. That is all. My next shift starts at 7 PM tonight and runs until 11PM, so I get to close. I don't think that it will be that bad because it comes with the bonus of free cookies leftover from that day and leftover of soup of the day, yummy... |
