16th overall
3rd female
1st in my age group (female)
23.53.95 (0.37 under my target, 0.52 under last year's time at this event, and only 0.18 longer than my personal record)

What I'm upset at myself for: letting those two high school girls pass
me. If I hadn't, I would have been female champion and landed a
personal record in the effort to keep them behind me (it would have
helped to know I was leading the pack).

What a great day. I love race day.
Tumultuous means being out of school for the middle half of the day to
be at the doctor with my sister. Tumult is decidedly upon me when,
within one week, I skip a day and a half of work (a rarity, for those who don't know me) because I'm sick.
Tumultuousness consists of running someone to the ER at 11:30 PM. Tumult would be a good
word for several other, more significant things that have happened
within the last week. However, being a sensible person, I keep those
off the Internet! (No jumping to conclusions allowed, especially
conclusions involving my boyfriend.) Oh, things are still quite smooth
in a comparative sense. I'm thankfully for odd tumultuous times,
because they are full of opportunities for humility and growth.
Additionally, they can be great scope for the imagination!

Other things remain unchanged. Times of fun and silliness with my
boyfriend. Crazy little girls at Sunday School. Spending Sunday with
friends (today being an abundant example). Random springtime cold
spells in Tennessee and covering the baby plants and praying that God
won't freeze (or even frost) "everything" to death this year. Taking
hot fresh bread with its beautiful golden brown crust out of the oven.

Life is good. I pity anyone who doesn't know it.
Precautionary measures, yes.

Well, my horticultural diversions are advancing. My green peas have
poked their little botanical heads out of the soil, as have the beets.
I can't really tell if I've got anything else coming up. Currently
there are plants starting in miscellaneous containers in the kitchen
window. There is cilantro, parsley, rosemary, and I guess the unlabeled
one is dill. In front
of the house, the daffodils and mum roots have been joined by the
sleeping seeds of shasta daisy, zinnia, and forget-me-nots. Along the
carport I plan on planting some monkey grass which I removed for some
neighbors.
anyone?), oregano, basil, and lavender. Still to come are rosemary and
chives, both of which have to be started indoors....ok, I'm a little
late, but no biggie with the long growing season here. There are some
onions already growing in the pantry; guess I'll see what they do in
the ground. In a few weeks I plan to put in another crop of peas and
beans. I might grow some late tomatoes, and probably more beans. Why
don't I grow more of the variety that we did at Mom and Dad's? Because
I can buy so much of it from the farmers. I'm starting small here and
taking care of my neighbors.

I have lived by those words of Spurgeon so many times since my teens.
There is a beautiful paradox in the concept of prayer. God is
completely sovereign, but somehow as his children we have the ability
to "influence his thinking," so to speak. When we "pray back" his
promises we know we are acting within his will, while at the same time
presenting to him our deepest (and sometimes not so deep, but still
important) needs. I love that word, "importunately." I have something I
pray for the same thing every single night . . . over and over and over
. . . and I can't think of any other way to say it than the exact same
way I've said it several dozen times, but I keep praying knowing that
past grace is about as solid as a promise. Here's what I mean by that.
The wife of a former pastor at GBC found that remembering and thanking
God for his past help with a personal issue was one of the greatest
ways to keep that issue from rising in her heart again. It's the same
with how we pray. We bring those promises back to God and humbly but
boldy tell him we want that promise for ourselves. Then we turn around
and thank him for the times he's kept that promise for us and for
others we know.

God has some definite ideas about what he wants our prayers to be like.
I think using the promises and the past examples of grace in our
prayers is a way to doubly fortify the faith with which we present our
requests. See James 1:5-8 for the importance of faith in prayer.

When I was a child under the age of 10, there was a dog in the
neighborhood which exceedingly annoyed my siblings and I. It was the
only dog at the time which made us at all insecure about adventuring.
The song continues, "B. (we used a nickname for my brother which I
value my life too much to type) had a gun. . . " Anyhow, a dog is
hanging around my home and has become similarly irksome. 'Nough said.

I will mention that the gun was a BB gun, and I will leave the rest to imagination of my readers (for the time being).

In other doggy news, my puppy has discovered the wonder of squeaky
toys. The first toy I bought her was a ball which squeaks. I thought
perhaps the noise would help her cope with the loneliness typically
experienced by puppies recently separated from their mother and litter.
However, she has not truly enjoyed the qualities of this toy and other
that squeak until .... well, within the last week, I'd say. Today I
discovered the previously mentioned ball in the grass and began to play
fetch with it (another concept she's just grasped since Dec. 1). She
would fetch it and then run around squeaking the ball and chasing it
when she dropped it. When she was good and ready she would bring it to
me and drop it on the ground and look up at me just waiting. Oh
yeh....sweet puppiness.
Saturday, November 17, 2007

Yeh. I have a boyfriend who likes to spoil me once in a while. My
favorite part of last night was the flowers (potted) that he pulled out
at the final moment. I now have red and yellos chrysanthamums (no, I
can't spell that).

By the way, I recommend Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium to any and everyone.
