| Today I saw a broadway show. 12 Angry Men. By far the best production of this play that I have ever seen. Then we went to Ollies. Yum.
I wrote a business letter for my business class about someone who inspires me. Here's how it went:
Dear Ms. Marla,
I am writing to you because throughout the nine years of ballet, you had faith in me. You accepted me and understood me. At the same time, you have shown me and the other dancers at Covenant Dance Studio and Theater that you are very strong-willed and determined. I admire your amazing independence. I mean, to be able to direct a dance studio, theater, and teach ballet, you have to be strong-willed, determined and independent. Also you have to be rational and open. So, with that broad range of qualities written, I’d like to tell you that you inspire me.
Whenever I needed help with a certain dance move, you’d let me stay late after class and teach it to me until I got it right. One time, during one of our five hour rehearsals for “Nisei,” you said something to me that just lit a light bulb in my head. It was “you can do it”. You said that after rehearsal, actually. First you said “don’t mess up your move.” I cried after rehearsal because I felt I wasn‘t perfect. Then the other dancers came up to me and told me that they had been through that stage before in ballet. I suddenly didn‘t feel alone any more. That‘s when you said that I could do it. That evening changed my whole perspective on dancing.
You taught me to be self-disciplined. This helps me to accomplish difficult tasks, homeworks, and projects. If you didn’t teach me how to be self-disciplined during dance classes, rehearsals and performances, honestly, I do not know where I would be right now. This discipline is more like self-control and motivation. When I am around friends who just act goofy or too silly in a calm environment, it doesn’t make sense to me. I try to teach them right from wrong sometimes, but I also learned that you can’t change anyone but yourself. People go about things in different ways.
You also taught me grace. You taught me not to be stiff and how you have to let your shoulders down. I also learned the right posture. So, I guess, without you, I’d be hunch-backed when I get older. (You also taught me sappy humor. Haha.)
Thank you for being the greatest role model and ballet teacher. Your positive attitude towards ballet and how well I, and the other ballet dancers, do our moves gives me confidence. Ballet started out as a struggle, and ended as a passion. I thank you for that.
Sincerely,
Melissa Polk
So what do you loves think? I know I'm pleased. :)
