| 'Australia' is crap.Actually, it's more than that; it's highly vanished crap, polished with the finest of terry cloth until it sparkles in the sun - but in the end, that just makes it a turd with extremely high production values. I'd want the last three hours of my life back if not for the fact that the point of seeing this retarded movie was to see it with my family - which in the end doesn't really have much to do with what we're seeing at all.
But it's a blatant and badly miscalculated appeal to liberal sympathies and all the usual stereotypes, right down to the 'be happy now, now be sad!' soundtrack. Bad, bad, bad bad bad. Don't watch it.

| Round-trip bus ticket to NYC and back: $44. Being stuck in Manhattan Thanksgiving traffic for an hour: fifteen brain cells. Having to endure while sister takes mug shots of my wildly unkept hair: my dignity.
A bite of my mother's perfect Thanksgiving turkey (how does she do it? Damn if I know): priceless.
The best things in life are free, for everything else there's delicious comfort food. Wish you were here!

| Post-Election Day ThoughtsObama won, yes, and I'm extremely pleased, but after digesting the news, what truly struck me is this: Is there any other country whose elections are followed so closely by the rest of the world? And is there any other country to which this attention would be considered a natural thing to possess?
Incredible, and frightening, especially when one considers that this victory truly marks the end of an era; President-Elect Obama symbolizes the end of power for the conservative baby boomer generation, who grew up in the years following WWII. Their experiences and ideology are markedly different from that of the current generation, and this is the first time someone closer to the present will have their turn. I pray that our incoming administration learns not only to nurture the enormous influence of our nation, but to wield this power for good.
The world seemed like a different place when I went to bed last evening, but now at the very least everyone can finally imagine a better future for themselves, if not only for a little while, and though still tempered with the sober realities of the present. When all's said and done, this is the first day since my naive early teenage years that I have allowed myself to think of the United States without regret or shame; to be able to believe in my country not through blind faith, or ignorance, but as an educated adult fully aware of its sins and flaws, is more precious than I had imagined it could be.

| I'm not perfect. *scratches his head* If it's not one thing, it's the other. Maybe I really should just drop everything and go and be a monk. o_O They argue that there's perfection in nothingness, but of course it's the getting there that's tough. On second thought, I don't think that would work out so well after all.

| Regarding tonight's vice-presidential debateI have to wonder why it is that Biden was tasked to answer first, and Palin second, on the majority of the questions posed. I doubt that anything in this debate was passed over - the format of this debate was thoroughly negotiated by both parties.
It could be a negotiated bias for Biden, or it could be a negotiated advantage for Palin. If it's the latter, it might be to compensate for Palin's lack of spontaneous performance; I'd imagine that it's easier to muster talking points if you're not going first. But what the hell do I know? I have little more than contempt for Palin, but I'm awed that these guys have the ability to stand before a giant crowd and the nation and do this at all.
