This note was written by my friend sarah jo but it puts the whole Noah story into a great perspective enjoy friends love you!
(Note: This note is long and probably has little to do with you except for the fact that either Heather or I tried calling you Thursday night and you didn't answer! BTW...most of you all have still not called me back!)
So, yeah, my friend Heather has had a rough couple of weeks. Two Fridays ago, her boyfriend was coming down to see her at SAU for the weekend, but the weather was horrendous that night and Noah (with his son Harley) got into a car accident. Harley was okay, but Noah was sent to the hospital where he was in a coma for about four hours. Meanwhile, Heather is waiting and waiting for him to show up, and he doesn't. Finally, Noah's sister calls and tells her what happened - Heather relays the message to myself and other friends asking for prayer. Noah comes out of the coma, is fine, goes home the next day and on Sunday after going to church, playing Bible Trivial Pursuit and watching Facing the Giants, gives his heart back to God!! We are all elated to hear the news and excited that Heather is going to spend her Spring Break with Noah and Harley going to Disney World.
Yeah, sounds pretty sweet...wait for it though...it gets better! :) On Wednesday, Noah is not feeling well and goes to the hospital where he has his appendix removed (which bursts in the doc's hand btw). He was going to come and get Heather on Thursday, but those plans are shot up in flames really quickly. I volunteer to drive Heather up to Bay City where Noah is at on Thursday so she can be with him. Yeah, sounds like it should be a quick trip, no hassles. Uh huh...
We get to Saginaw, about half an hour from where Noah is, and we get a call from his sister, Mikayla, again, and she says that he was just airlifted to U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor, back the way we had just come from! The toxins from his appendix has gotten into his system and were starting to destroy some of his major organs. Great...so Mikayla is on the road heading that way (which happens to be exactly where we are) so we decided to meet up in Birch Run so Heather can travel south with Mikayla. Don't worry it gets better! We get to Birch Run at 5:30, stop at a BP gas station/Burger King restaurant and get a bite to eat. Mikayla should only be about half an hour. So, at 6:30 we are little concerned and Heather cannot get ahold of Mikayla on the phone. Then Mikayla calls us and says that her tire just exploded on the highway and she is waiting for the tow truck which gets there as we hang up the phone from talking to her. We wait and wait and wait some more, until around 7:30 when we are still unable to get ahold of Mikayla (again) and are beginning to worry what is wrong now. I think she went to the wrong exit, and Heather is afraid that something really bad has happened. I try to keep her spirits up, but we are both concerned by this point. So we wait...
Around 7:45 the Burger King cook dude comes out to get some trays and starts talking to us. Heather tells him a quick synopsis of what we have been through and then he turns to me (the conversation goes something like this):
BK Dude: So where are you from?
Me: Spring Arbor University
Dude: Do you have a boyfriend?
Me: No
Dude: How old are you?
Me: Uh, 21...
Dude: I'm 18, do you like younger guys?
Me: (really confused) um, i guess...
Dude: Can I have your number?
Me: (really creeped out) No
Dude: I can show you a good time, c'mon...(continues talking as I say...)
Me: No...No...No...NO
Dude: Think about it.
Me: (as he walks away, under my breath) yeah right!
So, at this point, I look at Heather and I say, "If Mikayla is not here by 8:00 we are heading back. I can tell she really doesn't want to leave and she is really worried about Mikayla at this point, but she agrees and at 8:00 we leave and head back. I decide to take Heather straight to U of M cause hey, it is only an hour out of my way, Heather really wants to see Noah and we have already been on the road (and sitting in a Burger King) for almost 6 six hours. As we get closer to Ann Arbor, we start calling friends and family members who can give us directions to U of M Hospital. I swear, no one had their phones on that night. I called almost everyone in my phone book who is semi-familiar with Michigan or Ann Arbor, and no one answers!!! Heather tries a bunch of people too, but in the end we ended up with four sets of directions: my mom (who praise God answered the phone!), the gas station guy's (whose directions conflicted with my mom's) and two different sets of directions from one of Heather's friends.
Ok, so I was tired, had a headache, worried about Noah and Mikayla, and Heather, and it was 9:30 at night. I told Heather that I was in no state of mind to be driving around downtown Ann Arbor looking for the Hospital at that point, so we just headed back to SAU. Around 9:45 Mikayla finally calls and tells us why she never met up with us...are you ready? She had gone into premature labor (she is 5 months pregnant) and she had to go to the hospital in Saginaw. Praise God, everything was ok, she didn't have the baby, but she had to spend the night there. We were quite slap happy the rest of the way back to school, and we were trying to figure out why it had been so hard to get her and Noah together. Was it God? Satan? Is she just cursed horrifically? Who knows; we finally decided that it was because she had forgotten her toothbrush that day and God wanted her to have it with her for the week. Hence the name of our travels: The Toothbrush Adventure...
Update: On Friday evening Mikayla was going to come to SAU to pick up Heather after she was released from the hospital, but that never happened. Heather spoke with Noah and found out that they are now in Pennsylvania at his grandfather's funeral. They are flying back to Michigan on Wednesday and Noah has vowed to come get Heather before they head back home to Saginaw. So if you think of it pray that nothing else goes wrong for these two love-birds. They have tried so hard to get together but it just hasn't happened yet. However, the good thing is that they are falling more in love b/c of this...ya know...the whole "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" thing... :)
Thanks for reading to the end...hope you enjoyed it...we didn't!
