I didn't die or fall off the face of the planet.  However, I haven't been here in quite a while and I have no idea what's going on with any of my xanga pals.  Although, I don't really have any idea what's going on with my flesh and blood pals either!  Anyhow, life is Homework.  School.  Work.  That's as detailed as I get!  Now time for me to shower so I can go to work so I can come home and write a billion papers!  Woohoo!  Life is so full and rich now!  (or something............)

This is the first picture I've seen of myself in a LONG time that I actually like.... so I'm putting it on here so I remember it!

So, Thursday morning in World's Religions we discussed poverty (supposedly whether or not it's related to religion - but we didn't really even touch that).  Anyhow, the class ended with our teacher begging us to donate to less fortunate countries through organizations like Christian Children's Fund.  So, I was thinking that maybe I'd try to get ahold of one of those places to donate to them - or sponsor a child.... or something.

So, today I went to church and low and behold we had a guest priest who just happens to help with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.  He brought tons of kids for people to sponsor.  Apparently someone out there thought I should really do this, so I'm sponsoring one kid by myself and one with my mom.  Here they are:

This is Juvy Ann.  She's from the Philippines.  She's the one I'm sponsoring with my mom.  What's really sad is that her mom is a single parent (her dad passed away) and they've got 4 people living in the house (her mom, her brothers, sister, and her) living off of $30/month.  Can you believe that?!  $30/month?!?!  Apparently she speeks Tagalog and likes drawing and reading.

This is Sneha.  She's from India and lives with her parents, and brother.  They apparently live off of $41 a month.  So sad.  She's the one I'm sponsoring myself.  Anyhow, she apparently knows 3 languages (Tamil, Kannada, and English) and enjoys singing and dancing.  I'm really really excited about this!!!!!

If you're interested in doing the same you can contact the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (they have seniors they sponsor as well) at:
Christian Foundation for Children and Aging
One Elmwood Avenue
Kansas City, KS 66103
1-800-875-6564
www.cfcausa.org
It's only $20 a month!  And let me know if you decide to sponsor someone.  Oh, and by the way, they give you their addy so you can write to them too!
By the way, if you decide you want to help but you can't afford $20 a month, talk to me and maybe I can help you out!

Random factoids from a conglomeration of my classes (expect more to come) (*note* keep in mind that this is really shortened and meant only to inspire a few goosebumps and not cause a debate or anything... I just found this interesting):

Semites (the word) originates from "Shem" who was one of Noah's sons.  The people in the Middle East were all at one point called "Semites" or "Shemites" which means decendents of Shem.  Does that cause goosebumps or what?  Another interesting thing is Ham (Noah's "bad" son) is said to be the "father" of the Hamites (I think) who are said to have settled in Africa.  The intersting point to this is way way way back when the Middle East started having the slave trade (yes, they had one like the U.S. did) they justified enslaving the Africans or Hamites because they were descendents of the evil son therefore they must be evil.  Lastly, Noah's other son Japeth is said to be the father of basically the European people.  And in fact, there is a Greecian surname that sounds like Japetha or something (my teacher did not write it down) which cannot be traced to any Greecian origin - the only place people have been able to trace it is to the name of Noah's son.

I may not be too big on the whole God and Bible thing.... but learning this gave me goosebumps..... very interesting......
