Hi I just happened upon your site by looking for anyone who went to Winfield KS this year. I was moved by your post on Sept 20th. Sorry to hear about your dad....... Anyway, I have gone the past couple of years and love it. I would like to go again next year... Ihave made so many great friends...met the bands... so awesome. I have a documentary from 2003. It captures alot of it. The streets at 5am and such... well... cheers and have a nice day. ~peace & Winnie~

I was tickled to death by your comment about my photos. Coming from you who know how to do what to do with the camera, I feel so honored.
I wonder if one needs to take a class in learning about composition...can this be learned in a classroom setting or does one just take so many pictures and hope for some gems among the dross?

I am so honored that you have subscribed to my site.  Thank you for what you said about the Michigan trip.  You're right about finding people who are interesting when they have similar interests.  I think it was your submission to Repairman_Jack's contest on the camping trip with your family that started me thinking about how to present the Michigan trip.  When I visited your site for the first time and saw your photos, including the crawfish-boil party from LA, I knew I had to subscribe.  Thanks!

Dear Ms Swiftone,

Thanks so much for your kind comments.  "Requiem for Rick" is, in fact, mostly true.  I wrote it in fictional fashion, because it did have a nice plot spanning a number of years.   In my last conversation with him, Rick felt a little reticent about having his story told, but I felt it was worth telling.  He might mind, but I think the world is better for it.

The story behind those signs is interesting.  I am like you in that regard, mostly.   I wouldn't put up some kind of pedestrian, token flag or something like that.  It's got to mean something.  The idea for those signs in Champaign-Urbana came from a radio talk show host, Brant Hansen.  Brant echoed the feeling of many in this community when he wanted to come up with some way of thanking our service men who were (and are) in active duty.  I and many others felt slightly helpless in expressing our gratitude.  The signs are insufficient, but they are at least something.  Some 2,500 signs were given out and gone within hours.

Brant has since moved to Florida.   He has his own Xanga site. branthansen  It's worth a look!

One more thing.   I'm not a professional writer.   At least not yet.  I demand good English from those who are, however, and I'm not afraid to let them know it.  Not everyone can be an e.e. cummings.   More on that subject in a future post!

Hey, thank you for your wonderful comment on my Saturday blog! It is truly appreciated. If you'd like some info on getting an ezine started WildFaerie is a great person to contact. Tell her I sent you. She is a plethora of info.

As for all the things I accomplish, well, I drive myself pretty hard. There are nights that I fall into bed in utter exhaustion. I fear that this fall will be a nightmare trying to juggle my writing & my schooling. All my kids will be in school this year, which will give me more time, but I have the feeling things will change rapidly for my writing & I'll have my hands full.

Best wishes,

Faith
