This post shall be a brief collection of random stuff.

An interesting tidbit: you know the book that you're reading is old when it refers to Wegener's plate tectonics briefly in one chapter just as a possible explanation for orogeny.  Yay for used books ^_^ (they always smell so nice and old and friendly too).  Though I'm going to set that aside as its age sort of limits its use as a reference resource =/.  Meh.  The history of science is fascinating in the way it continuously evolves... hehe.  Evolution.

Studying is going meh.  12.109 Petrology is rather overwhelming in its detail though >_> I think I've had more than enough of ferromagnesian minerals.  I must say that Fort Minor's "Remember the Name" is a very good motivational "sikk song" =) lol.  Not really my genre of music but I like that particular piece.  The Encyclopedia of Earthquakes and Volcanoes is an awesome reference source.  The brief descriptions are relatively succinct and nicely worded in layman's terms haha.

July 4 was all right.  We hosted a small grill event and a few relatives came over lol.  An old friend of mine, Derek Vuong, came over again and stayed overnight =) haha even though he's so far in Temple City I'm happy we can keep in touch at least.  We played another 1v1 SC:BW round, lol.  It was rather amusing because I went to great lengths to kill his probes, though I wasn't that successful (a shuttle drop of four zealots combined with a diversionary frontal attack went unnoticed for a little while though XD).

Summer school (Intro to Art 110) starts Monday xP woohoo.  No more waking up at 1300 lol.

    The end.

Lalalalala I'm not working.  Not very much happened today.  I learned how to poach cod though :) yay!  Though it didn't turn out that well, but whatever hehe.  That's my random blurb of the day... hehe.

  • Plagioclase feldspar

Hmmk another post.  So I guess summer's going pretty well, haha.  I've been really relaxed, much to the chagrin of my mother x_x rawr.  I've got to stop slacking (perhaps I'll go on an AirRivals hiatus... mmo's are too addictive for me lol, I can never quit them cold turkey).  I can't get myself to focus though :/ it's like some immutable notion in my head that summer is for relaxing and relaxing only.  I need some sword to shatter that with.

Anyways, nothing new lol.  So I shall post random crap.  Hehehe.  All that follows below this sentence fragment is random crap (not to say the above wasn't the same).
First off, today I cooked breakfast lol.  My dad was like ahh ok go make some eggs and bread lol, so I took some liberty with that...

This is an epic combination of (in the order of which they were added), a single egg, a slice of white bread, cucumbers, carrots, and... milk.

Then I added some CHEESE.  :]

The final result looks interesting to say the least.

Fortunately it tasted just a little better than it looked, but not by much xD.  Mainly I shouldn't have put the milk and spammed so much cheese lawl.  The serving I cooked for my dad turned out a lot better haha.  So that was today's foray into cooking stuff lol.

Volunteering at the library was interesting today.  It was really quiet for the first hour or so, and then *boom* about 6-7 kids assailed our table all at once so Brandon and I were quite suddenly overloaded.  Yea that wasn't that significant but w/e.  Oh and I learned that Ashil and David (Liu) are coming to Troy as freshies next year!  YAY  :D.  Haha they did scioly for el rancho last year.  Kinda interesting that I don't really know them but whatever, I'll meet them.  Which reminds me that I owe Mr. Walker some papers still.. >__> ugh haha.

And that's all I have to say for today, hehe.  Oh, and I love Google Documents :) woohoo!  Good stuff.

    MIT Open Courseware

Holy cow.  1800 courses.  Both graduate and undergraduate studies.  =O.  This reeks of pure win.  I should totally not go to college, save the money, take a bunch of these courses, and establish some entrepreneurial business and die bankrupt at 35.  WOOHOO.

    Interesting stuff:
There's a huge variety of architecture courses o.o haha oh man.  I remember when I was little... like 5th grade, 6th grade ish?  I dreamt of becoming an architect... interesting stuff.  I think it's cool how in professions like these, form and function and efficiency and simplicity (or flamboyance) all intermingle to produce a perfect end product.
There's a whole section for the brain and cognitive sciences o.o wow.
CMS.600/CMS.998 Videogame Theory and Analysis - LOL.
Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences; sweeeeeeet.
6.099 Street-Fighting Mathematics - the name is quite interesting to say the least, but the course content actually sounds pretty cool.
18.376J Wave Propagation - An entire class devoted to how waves propagate.  O_O; holy crap.

Now moreso for my own referernce (so I don't have to go through that entire course list again >_>)...
Stuff I might actually look into:
21F.101 Chinese I (Regular) - Considering that I'm aznphail, this wouldn't be a bad start.

7.30J Fundamentals of Ecology - Good review much?  There doesn't seem to be much in the way of ecological studies though :/.  I dug up a few others below.
1.020 Ecology II: Engineering for Sustainability - A bit specific in range, but hm.
12.517 Dynamics of Complex Systems: Complexity in Ecology - Now this might actually be useful.  I need to learn all my formulas and delve more into ecology, modeling it, etc...
12.007 Geobiology - Seems like it might cover some good stuff too?

12.109 Petrology - Hmm probably too advanced >_< but the stuff covered seems really useful to understanding geology on a microscopic level.
12.490 Advanced Igneous Petrology - Now that's the stuff.  Interestingly, I was googling pillow basalt when I found this mirrored on a Chinese website, and from there I found the real website.  Probably also too advanced (lol as stated in the title) >_< but I've got to get these minerals down.
12.510 Introduction to Seismology - PERFECT.  Except it looks like it goes into a lot of math ._. and I'll probably have to cower in fear of advanced stuffies.
12.520 Geodynamics - Excellent.  Also seems advanced but I think at least introductory material will be good.
12.570 Seminar in Geophysics: Mantle Convection - Hmm.

There's a lot of other cool stuff too (meteorology, oceanography, economics, biology, literature) but there just ain't enough time to look through it all haha.  Interestingly there seems to be nothing on glaciers :[ boo haha.  Holy crap this stuff is awesome.  Now if only I could osmosisfy all this information in time for Scioly tryouts.

Something else I also forgot to post - I love used bookstores :).  I picked up six more books from the Friends of the Yorba Linda Library place just off Imperial.  Perrrrfect.  A great bargain at like $4.50 or something.

Anyhow, it's hard to believe two weeks of summer are already up.  I'm glad I'm not doing Elite :) haha (good luck to everyone who is slogging through their work there >_<).  I also got back into playing AirRivals lol (AirRivals being basically a repackaged Space Cowboys Online).  I've grinded up to level 20 over two days, which ain't too bad, though the grind is getting a bit repetitive.

    And back to work.

  • Starcraft

    Never fails to amaze.

Wait until 4:11 for the game to start; the game ends at 7:20.  Steven Lu introduced me to this epic match ._. holy shat.  Brilliant four pool.  I like how many noted that he could have halted it by blocking the ramp (and he did know that it was coming, sorta).  SC progamers are freaking insane...
