  • Survival of the Fattest

Prior to moving out on my own, I developed a big interest in cooking and learning how to cook. I deleted recordings of The Office and Heroes (yes, I kept them just in case I might want to watch them one day) on my DVR to make room for shows on the Food Network. I've become obsessed with Top Chef and Good Eats (and Jon and Kate Plus eight, but that's another blog). Alton Brown has become my best friend!

I wanted to be prepared/able to cook meals for myself and others. Alissa and I have been pretty good so far about not eating out so often, especially at fast food restaurants. So far, so good -- or should I say...delicious? :)

I've been cooking meals for the past month, but wasn't confident enough to take pictures and post them. Not because they don't taste good, but because they don't look that great. I've been working on taste more than making the food look good. I'm still a noob chef, give me a break.

Today's lunch was spam musubi and a glass of passion fruit green tea. Yum!

As I get better and perfect my recipes, I'll take more photos and posts some how-tos.

Mushroom burgers, baked chicken, salmon, stir-fry, spaghetti, sandwiches, udon noodle, and ramen are just some of the dishes I can remember cooking.

Cooking for myself has been pretty awesome. It's rewarding and fun to know exactly what you're putting into your body. Whenever I got to restaurants now, I always try to reverse engineer the food.

    Till next time,

    cheers!

  • City Guy

Life has been moving so fast lately (despite the traffic)...

I know this has nothing to do with the title of this entry, but we FINALLY received our new cable box at the apartment. It's an high definition digital cable box + DVR.

A friend of mine asked me the other day what super power I would want to have. I told him I wanted to be able to travel back and forth through time. This is something I've actually thought about before. Many people want the ability to fly. I've thought of the practicality of flying.

Being able to fly doesn't mean you have the ability to withstand the high altitudes and speed. When I think about something being able to fly, I think of SuperMan kind of flying -- not floating. And well...SuperMan's body can withstand that speed and alititude because...he's a...super man. What if you get hit by a bird during mid flight? You would die!

    ...uh...okay...

    It's late...

So what does a DVR have anything to do with time traveling? It has everything to do with time traveling!

Often times, I'll record a show I plan to watch right away. However, instead of watching which it's record...or watching after the entire program is running...I'll start to watch during about half way through the recording. If the timing is correct, I'll finish the show just in the time when the program is over in "real time". However, I started the program later than everyone else watching it live. That extra 15...30...whatever minutes that I saved could be spent doing other things...like...watching more TV!

I don't know. I just think the DVR is one of the greatest inventions ever. If you don't currently own a DVR, you should really think about getting one. It's such a time saver.

TV watch can be very time consuming. You have to work around the TV and the network's schedule. But with a DVR, the TV works around YOUR schedule. Watch TV when you want to. Keep up with your favorite TV shows. Watch your favorite shows that play at the same time.

Get a DVR and time travel with me.

My name is Hiro Nakamura, and I am from the future.

    Edit:

To make up for the weird entry, here are some cute baby photos:

  • Everyone Loves a Ninja

    everyone loves a ninja...or else

This set of photos cleaverly titled "Ninjas" is an ongoing project I will be working on with some other photographers from Xanga. On this shoot, the infamous Gerk lended a helping hand. If you have any ideas, and would let to help as well, please let me know.

These photos were taken almost a month ago using a Nikon D300 and 17-55mm lens. Three SB800s were used to overpower the setting sun -- fired using Nikon CLS.

edit: I missed a photo during the upload process. Added!

  • Why?

    I just don't get it.

    Location: Long Beach, CA

The only stolen item was an 80gig iPod video. I say "only" nonchalantly because my camera bag was in the back seat of the car. Contents of the camera bag valued over five thousand dollars! Everything was almost brand new equipment. Also in the car was my girlfriend's purse as well as her P&S camera. THE ONLY THING THEY STOLE WAS AN iPOD!

I honestly don't know what I would have done if that stuff was stolen. Really. Would I have quit photography? I can't! Photography has become a second job to me. It makes me some extra money on the side, and I need it more than ever since I moved out to an apartment. I also had some photoshoots planned later this month. I've signed contracts already for services I'm scheduled to provide. I haven't planned for a potential situation like this.

    I feel so violated.

Hopefully, I can turn this horrible situation into something positive. I've been wanting to get another car for a long time now. Maybe this is the right time now? My car has been through a lot during the relatively short time that I've owned it. It's been in a pretty bad accident, it's gotten keyed, stolen antennas, door dings...lots of vandalism.

I just don't get it!!! I mean, okay. This dude had a purpose; they broke my window, and stole an iPod. WHY DOES SOMEONE KEY SOMEONE'S CAR THOUGH?! I positive that I don't have any haters. It was just some random act of vandalism. What do they gain from it?! They didn't even tag some gang name on my hood or anything. Just some big scratches. AHH!

I can't believe how popular the tC got in such a short period of time. It defenitely is the "new civic".

Oh well, time to get a less ricey car. Something a bit more classy.
