| Today, I watched a documentary on sweatshops put on by the National Labor Committee. Being in the western world, we might hear of these things, but they are conveniently masked so as to not disturb our virgin eyes. Yet, as I saw the working conditions the garment workers in Bangladesh had to endure, I was overwhelmed. This issue is shockingly vast, with the injustice pulsating through a complex maze of corporations, money, and greed. To see the ways in which these people are being "used" and "thrown away" like the very clothes they piece together is grossly disturbing and demands a response. Companies such as Disney and Walmart are directly violating human rights by forcing 80 hours work weeks and pathetic wages, throwing workers into a dizzying cycle of poverty and life-less existence. And yet, are only corporations to blame? We are the ones that demand such product, and in turn, are endorsing the rampant continuation of such blatant sin. I am in no way an expert on the injustices of the global economy, but I do know that I am personally responsible for my actions and the consequences of my actions. I still need time to chew on this, for there are many perspectives and factors that I do not know and have not considered. I need more wisdom and compassion. | | |
| don't touch that mute button...people talk about Iraq all the time, but maybe we need to start listening. seek justice, encourage the oppressed, defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow. fix our broken ears.

| much more than a holiday. In years past, the celebration of Martin Luther King Junior and his unbridled devotion to justice and equality for the oppressed fell upon deaf ears, namely, my own.
And with the inspiration of my Social Justice professor, I chose to dive into his life and see what all the commotion was about. And only now am I realizing the glory of the fight.
If you seek to peer into the heart of this extremist for love, read "Letters From A Birmingham Jail."
