Today there were a couple of people on bicycles just talking to each other right there on the sidewalk and crosswalk, reserved for pedestrians who may want to, I don’t know, use the fucking space for the purpose of crossing and walking.
Hubby said to the guy, “Excuse me…”
The guy just stands there. “Just go around…there’s space…”
There were three of us. For him to stay there on the damn CROSSWALK with his stupid bike is the height of rudeness, which happens to be one of my pet peeves. I can be a blunt person and some people may see that as rude, but decorum is something I pay attention to.
Hubby then raised his voice and moved his bike a little. Make this story short—the bike guy gets mad and then his friend on her bike calls out something by the time we were already on the other side. What kind of chicken shit is that?
I didn’t say anything because A, I was in a great mood—I didn’t want to ruin our day on assholes who think they own the world. B, I think shouting matches are reserved for dingy bars or playgrounds. We should act better. Our kid was right there and I wanted to set an example. Once upon a time I would have bothered to explain why someone’s behavior is unacceptable. Now I just don’t think it’s worth it.
What would you have done in that situation?
Hubbies asked nicely, and look what it got him. He has a short temper when it comes to this kind of behavior and he feels that if he had to do it over again, he would have tossed the guy’s bike onto oncoming traffic.
Grrrrr…
Also in retrospect I should have taken a pic of his bike right there on the crosswalk and posted it. The jerk.
