  • More interviews. I think there's a pretty good chance that the one this morning will lead to a job, but I'm not sure how much I'd like it. I'd be an assistant to a wheely dealy tax lawyer... if he offers me the job, I'll take it, because I don't have any other offers on the table. But I do have another interview tomorrow, so there's always hope.

I found a high-altitude adaptation of the famous "no-knead bread" recipe. I made The Guy bike to the store for a big ole bag of flour so that I could try it out. This'll be my first attempt at high-altitude baking, so there's no telling how it'll turn out.

  • Another day, another interview. Got one scheduled for tomorrow and for Thursday. I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't get either of the jobs I interviewed for last Thursday/Friday, but SURELY, SURELY someone will hire me soon. I can't help but feel like I'm doing something wrong.

I've finished the first four books in the Earthsea series now, and the second one is by far my favorite. But it's dark, and really desolate, and kind of creepy, and not much actually HAPPENS, so it's probably not for everyone.

Lentils + mashed potatoes = surprisingly good dinner.

We visited a church on Sunday night, and I was really disappointed. I thought that a church that bills itself as a place for the "right-brained and left out" would be really interesting... but it was a thoroughly typical service. They served dinner beforehand, and we came and ate, and we sat alone, and nobody introduced themselves to us. The latter bothers me much more than the former. We're going to try a different place next week.

It's still hot here. We are, it seems, in the middle of a heat wave that is probably going to break the record (18 straight days of temperatures in the 90s, set in 1901). Gross.

Finally, the guy and I have been playing Diablo II together. It's pretty fun. Not as much fun as World of Warcraft, but it makes up for that by being free.

  • No job yet. In fact, the nonprofit I interviewed with on Friday sent me a rejection email within 6 hours of the interview. I'm getting really sick of interviews.

The Guy is feeling a little under the weather today, so we had a very lazy Saturday; no hiking or anything, just lots of laying around and watching free movies (huzzah for the library).

Today I learned that I like swiss chard better than kale, and "The Office" better than "Syriana." I don't know what that tells you about me.

Finally, "Ticket to Ride" is a pretty fun board/computer game. Check it out.

  • Had an interview today with a flower shop/dance studio. It seems really cool. I hope she calls me. Other than that, I haven't done much today. In contrast, The Guy buzzed around like a bumblebee on coffee all day, cleaning and organizing and painting. We took a little hike around an alpine meadow before dinner, and that was rough (I really should have eaten first) but very pretty. I'll get in shape yet.

  • This low-VOC, nontoxic, safe paint doesn't really live up to its "low-odor" claims. But it looks cool, so I'll forgive it. All the walls in the kitchen are now "engaging" blue, and the window wall in the living room is "spring vigor" green. I really, really like the colors - they're so bright and fun! - but they need a final coat in the morning.

The good and bad news is that we will have a ton of paint left over. So... do I (and my less enthusiastic husband) infuse more walls with spring vigor? I'm afraid the place will be too bright, and it will feel like we live inside a giant one-up mushroom. Ok, well, as small as our apartment is, it would only be a medium-sized one-up mushroom, but you get the point.

We explored the farmer's market this evening. It was neat - they had everything from herbs to bison meat to beets to coffee - but everything was expensive. (That's because it's local AND organic.) We bought a loaf of bread. I haven't even attempted making bread up here yet. I sense a lot of failing lies down that path.

My husband makes a really good sandwich. He's pretty great. And now my typing is keeping him up, so I guess that's all. Nite.
