| I have a friend of mine recently who dictated to me a recent story of a miracle. Her brother-in-law or so (I forget the exact relation) recently had his finger sliced off in some unfortunate work related mishap. The family of this brother-in-law took him all over the bay area with his finger in a bag to this hospital and that trying to figure out how to get his missing digit reunited with it's other members. When all hope was lost, they miraculously found the best doctor in the Bay Area and one of the best (of not the best) in the world on grafting body parts. Apparently he was the first doctor to do such a surgery, or some sort of pioneer in the industry. All apologies to the lack of professional journalism here. Regardless, he was happily reunited with his digit and the doctors were all amazed at his recovery and the family thought it was a great time to witness to the doctors and tell them it was because they were praying.
And it's where I stop listening.
I have a hard time believing in finger miracles. In fact, in angers my heart to believe in them. I'm not saying God doesn't care about this man's finger, but what about the 15 year old boy who was shot in front of my house earlier this year? What about Iraq? Sometimes I wonder why God cares about us at all over here when there's such hell over there that we created. And I wonder how it's justified that a white family who had one of the best doctors in the world operate on their brother's/son's hand can be so happy and content with this "miracle." I wonder if a black family from my 'hood would have had such fortune for a miracle. Even if they did, their insurance probably wouldn't have been able to provide for one.
It's not that I don't believe in miracles. It's that I don't believe in miracles for those who have so much. I understand this is me. I might be wrong, but I can't see why it would happen, and I would be angry at my God if he allowed so much suffering and then healed a finger fast just because. The miracles I believe in are different. Steve is a miracle. His mother died of a crack overdose. His brother was shot. Bullets flied at his funeral. He lives in a small apartment with his Grandma and other family members by the graces of a slum lord. Yet today Steve isn't bitter. He's a happy high schooler trying to stay out of trouble and away from sex, drugs, and alcohol. He's looking forward to college, and hopefully this fall we'll go to visit North Park.
I think that's the best miracle I can think of believing in right now. Maybe someday I can believe in the dead raising and the sick being healed, the blind seeing and the lame walking. And possibly one day I could even believe in a surgically reinstated finger by a very good doctor being healed rapidly as a miracle. But for now all I can do is be content with the good news being preached to the poor. I think I can handle that one, but I'm frustrated that it seems less important to others.
I have a lump in my throat and I don't understand.
"The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf here, the dead are raise, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me" -Luke 7:22

| Finally!
West Oakland One + One finally launched today! We had our first tutoring session with the six kids who had signed up for the program. Who said it had to be big to be good? I even tried to take pics of the show, but the battery in my camera was dead. This is better than a motorcycle and a camping trip! Like my mad drawing skills?
| A Little Late...So, the DRC elections were nearly half a year ago, but we must reminisce... I must say, that if the DR Congo actually pulls this thing off, everyone in the world should shake Jean Pierre Bemba's hand. I mean, in every other era in the Congo, and currently in many other transitioning democratic countries, whenever the opponent loses he still tries to take conrol (see: Obrero in Mexico, even an "established" democratic country). Thus, Kabila may get the nod for turning the DRC around someday (though unrightfully so considering his record, and unlikely so considering it's resources and location), he should first give a nod to his former opponent. Mr. Bemba, I salute you for making Congo a better place. However, much like the Middle East, the Congo will always be in strife because we, and everyone else, wants what they have, and are willing to fight and kill over it. Thus, you should not buy cell phones or diamond rings to save the Congo. (Congo has 30% of the worlds diamonds, and 70% of the worlds Coltan, which is used in cell phones). And thus, you should also all buy a motorcycle to save the Middle East. They use less gas and are more fun. | | |

New BikeA few nights ago I watched "Ghost Rider," which I would suggest for no one to watch, unless they like or are getting into motorcycles. It's horrible acting, horrible plot, horrible everything. But, it has a lot of explosions and fire. And Eva Mendes. I assume people who are going for those reasons don't care about acting or plot. And tonight I bought another sweet ride. This one actually works! So, I'll try to sell the junker I bought a month ago and try to get my license and registration in time for when Petey comes out to visit me. Pics will come soon.
