| Big Week in Seattle!I'm new to Mac--I got a macbook right before the summer started &
though it took me a little while to adjust, I am now a mac-lover. So I
decided why not sell my soul to Apple & get an iPhone? I did my research but I took my friends Mark & Laurie who had bought iPhones last week in case the Apple people asked me a question I didn't know. Mark voluntarily documented the event. This was how excited I was to be next to a new iPhone! And I think I made that sales-girl's day! With my new phone! I also got flowers in a box yesterday! My parents sent them to me as an early birthday! This is how I arranged them. Kind of pathetic I know, but what can you do when you're living in a dorm?... ...You can find someone who is good at arranging flowers! Thanks to Laurie & an obliging bush, this is the new arrangement. So pretty!
| Funny Things on the Road.Life on the road is always an adventure. Thank goodness we have camera phones to document it! Here's some funny pictures taken with my phone or my mom's. The new doxies. Remy & Pama. This was on the trip home with my parents. Barking at the 3 great danes next door. They may not be large but they are definitely in charge! My initials on a license plate! A funny sign at a gas station. Having class on a hillside when the a/c wouldn't turn on one night. The Worldview trailer rarely looks small but it was dwarfed by these two tour-like bus/trailers! | | |
| Week 5: Sunday night & already seeing the Lord work!I don't normally have time or feel like I should allow myself the time to write a whole lot, but I just really want to share how the Lord has worked today! We're in Northern California (where it is currently 55 degrees) at a small school that we like a lot, but who has kind of over booked their groups for this week.
A couple weeks ago when we realized there might not be enough beds for the number of people we had we (the conference service director & I) realized we were going to have to get creative. We worked out that we could split our group between 2 dorms & that they would move extra beds into those dorms, turning doubles into triples & singles into doubles. Tight on our end, but we were thankful they were willing to work with us.
So we start setting up for opening day this morning & realized that no extra beds were brought in & that we are 15 beds short. I make a call to the conferences director & he admits he forgot but that he'd get some people on it immediately. Well his people were already running around like crazy between our group & the others on campus. Around 2pm the conferences director get to campus because he wants to make sure we get beds & he's going to do it himself to make sure it's done. We are very very appreciative for his going the extra mile to make sure all our kids get beds! Service like this is not normal, believe me!
Later on tonight, around 7:30 or so I am walking back to my room & see the conferences director & his staff (4 guys) taking apart beds in one dorm & loading them onto this tiny truck & moving them to our dorm. I thank them profusely for their service & proceed to my room. They call me a few minutes later about exactly which rooms needed beds, I had given them a list but it was, I admit, hard to read--it was my notes, my system, never intended to be used by anyone else. So I go over to where they are & try to translate & then it occurs to me that I could just pick up a piece of bed & help them. So as much as they tried to stop me I just said, "you know what, I'm from Texas, I'm tough!" The job suddenly became humorous because, "anything you can do, I can do better!"--you carry a mattress on your head up some stairs, you bet I'm going to too--& faster!
We got the job done in about an hour & I walked away with the biggest grin on my face--the whole time they were amazed that I would even consider helping much less do every thing they were doing. They couldn't believe this was my 6th week on the road & it was a joy to me to help move beds. I am so so thankful at this opportunity the Lord gave me to serve! The day started with me having to be very demanding--we needed beds for our kids. But it ended with relationships being formed that will help make this a great week of camp! We're on a "last name basis" now--"Nelson, you're becoming my favorite client!" To which I said, "that's what I strive for!"
I'm not sharing this story to boast about what I did, but to give praise to the Lord for giving me this opportunity! I had a hour to spend & He gave me a great way to spend it! I can't tell you how much I'm still grinning over the way the Lord orchestrated this evening! Thank YOU LORD!!
| Week 4: San Diego Surprise! My parents flew to San Diego to surprise me! In case you thought I was neater while at camp, you were wrong! Me & Daddy at the beach! All three of us at the beach! Squinty but happy! Me & my mama at this cool place we had lunch, overlooking the ocean. Great shrimp tacos!! Week four of camp has gone very well! We all survived the altitude/dryness of New Mexico & Arizona, but not without much dependency upon the Lord! We've had an awesome group of kids this week--such excitement for truth, I love it! Thanks for your prayers & support! | | |
| Week Two: University of New Mexico "I'm a turkey?" "No, Albuquerque!" (Remember Psalty the Singing Song Book?)
Week two is going wonderfully! This week is a bit smaller camp than last week which provides great opportunities for deeper, more intentional relationships! Praise God for this great group of students who are excited to learn & apply truth!
The mountains (Sandia?) are beautiful and the dry climate means calm hair! :) Will you join me in praising God for this week? And also in praying against altitude sickness/dehydration? Thank you, and I thank God for you! Bye for now!
