Just got back from Philadelphia where my mom ran her first marathon (see time above), so we're all very proud of her. My friend Matt ran too (2:58:37). This is his third marathon and by far his best time. He qualified for Boston (and then some) so there's a good chance I'll go up with him, though that's a ways off. Good weekend all around. Have a happy Thanksgiving all.
Big ups to Jay for tipping me off to NOVA's Intelligent Design on Trial. I'm sure he'll give a more complete review so I'll just say it explained the ideas and concepts I've heard countless times in the news and in classrooms with the greater clarity than ever before. I also applaud NOVA for getting articulate, well-informed ID proponents and avoiding the temptation to straw man the psuedoscience. It makes it all the more satisfactory when their ideas are thoroughly refuted. Quick question for Jay: Is the "twig/tree" model explicitly stated in Origin of Species or is that a modernized construct? Either way, it's a beautifully elegant explanation.
For those who didn't see it, here is an explanation of this entry's title. Those who did see it should check out the link for positively hilarious comments from witty evolutionists. That whole incident has given me greater pride in my role as a textbook proofreader. It's called find and replace people!
