A month of complete hiatus. Hands off on xanga has somewhat robbed my zest for whipping out material to write about. I'm having very acute writers block. But nevermind, won't let that stop me.
Went to Hong Kong for the first time for a week, and I can honestly say, Singapore is so much like Hong Kong, except that Hong Kong is definately much much more buzzling than Singapore. Well, it's always greener over there. And I would love to visit HK again. Stayed in a modest hotel that was smacked right in the middle of chaotic Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
On the very first day there, I dived straight into their subway - the mtr, and I was like "..hey the subway looks and feels pretty much like Singapore!" And the trains stations were always packed and noisy, just like how Orchard Road would be during the school holidays. Crowded wasn't the right word... more like packed sardines! Getting lost was the theme of the trip and that was exactly what I did. Took a blind train to anywhere, and I ended up back at the aiport station. And then I decided to take the city buses back into busy Kowloon.
So anyway, this is a warm-up entry. Hopefully more juicy posts coming soon...sex, politics, love etc

'Whah?! Only 50 dollah for red packet money?! Outrageous! This is first class hotel banquet! ..Please show him to door!"
This year alone I've already attended 6 weddings and there's another one coming up in November. It makes me wonder if when my own wedding comes, should I, like any digit counting Singaporean invite the entire horde of people I've known my entire life and care only for 'covering up losses' with the receiving of red packets or should I only invite those who truly want to celebrated my joy and be a day of rememberance?
See.. I know what it feels like to be 'acquainted' to the wedding couple and being assigned a seat at the 'miscellaneous' table of friends. Random people who were long time friends of the bride and groom but where somehow socially misplaced in their hierarchy of networking. And it's usually current working friends who take on the jobs as Best Man and Brides Maid ..the 'brothers' and 'sisters'.
Imagine being invited to a wedding and not being able to recognize anyone at the wedding except the bride and groom? Yes ...painfully alone. So I've decide to ease the pain of acquaintances and strike them off the list of my wedding to be.
Oh did I mention that I just attended a wedding last Friday and everybody there was a stranger, and I can safely say that by the end of that evening, mime was my new hobby. Constantly snapping my head in all directions in hope of spotting anyone with the slightest resemblance of 'friend'. I faked smiled so much, felt like I smoked something too much.
The nice looking girl sitting on my right was very comfortable with being anonymously quiet and distant. The ice breaking conversation between both of us only came in dribbles of akward one liners. Painful... 3 ½ hours.
That night had a new theme for me. Counting down the dishes. I so hate chinese weddings in Singapore ... :)
