Last Saturday:

I ate at Boots and Kimos!  Yum!  I crossed Kamehameha Highway.  It was kind of scary.  I was on Kahekili for about 30 seconds.

Sunday:

I drove to Costco Hawaii Kai...I found out that I can't stay in my lane.  Well I would be able to stay in the lane if I could tell how far away the lines are, but I'm having a really hard time with that.  On the way to Costco, Mike warned me many times that I was drifting to the right.  I could hear the tires going over the round bumps.

I had my first drive thru experience at Burger King.  Yea~.  I wasn't close enough to the pick-up window though.  I almost had to get out of my car.

This week, I'm going to try driving Mike's van.  I'm hoping that I would have a better view of the lines.

I finally got my permit last Wednesday.  Chris took me all the way to Pearl City to get it.  The girl before me DIDN'T PASS.  And, she had 2 more wrong than me.  hahaha.

Wednesday evening I drove a liiiiiiitle bit.  I learned that cars move forward when you release the brake, even if you're not pressing the gas.

Saturday, Mike took me to KCC.  He was wearing a helmet (no joke).  I was there for 2 hours going around and around the parking lot.  Trying to park in a stall was a hit and miss situation.  I wasn't really sure where to start turning.

I guess practicing in Mike's new car was too stressful for Mike.  On Sunday, he picked me up in his beat up van.  My sister tagged along.  I think she feels threatened now that I have my permit too.  Well the van was too hot so we started practicing in my mom's car.  After about an hour and a half at the KCC parking lot again, Mike drove it to the Kahala area.  First time on a real road.  No traffic lights and not too many cars.  Somehow, I ended up at a real intersection by Kahala mall and it scared the crap out of me.  I wanted to back out of it but there was a car behind me!  So I started to cry/laugh.  Then the light turned green!  And mike and my sister yelled GO!!!!  so I had to go.  Then I came up on the back side of the mall.  I thought that maybe I should turn into the parking lot and give the car back to Mike, but Mike didn't think that I could drive through a parking lot with real cars driving around.  So instead he tells me to turn right, onto the street right under the freeway.  Well I see a crosswalk and I was confused if I was supposed to stop or not.  So I was yelling, "AM I SUPPOSED TO STOP??"  And Mike and my sister are yelling, "NO KEEP GOING IF THERE ARE NO PEDESTRIANS".  So I figured I should keep going and then all of a sudden, they're yelling "STOP! STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING???"  I guess I didn't see the yield sign.  Well maybe I did see it...I can't remember.  Well even if I had seen it, I didn't know what I was supposed to anyway.  So I was about to drive into a whole lane of cars coming off the freeway if they didn't yell at me.

Anyway, my sister leaves me and it's just me and Mike.  He drives to the Niu Valley residential area.  I practice my turns there.  Then at the middle school, I practiced parking.  I was pretty bad at it and Mike was getting irritated.  Then, I finally figure out that when he says "correct" he means "correct the tires" and not "you are correct."  After an hour at the parking lot, I think I got a little better.  Leo happened to drive into the parking lot and he and alex and owen wished me luck.  Actually they wished Mike luck.

On the way home, I take over the wheel from 10th avenue.  I go down Kilauea, and successfully make a right onto 6th avenue.  I kind of didn't make it into my driveway.  I grazed the hedges on the right.  Lots of scratches on the right doors now.

Question:

Lighted arrows are sometimes used to control turns from a specific traffic lane.  A red arrow:

1.  Is never used as a traffic signal.

2.  Means the same as a circular red light for the indicated lane of traffic.

3.  Means that you may go in the direction indicated by the arrow.

4.  Means that the traffic the arrow is pointing toward must stop.

Answer:  Apparently, it's not number 1!!!  I've never seen a red arrow before!  So I got that question wrong.  I got the same question wrong when they asked about the yellow arrow.

I hope you are all happy because I won't be driving for at least another week...I didn't pass the permit test!   That's one less unsafe driver on the road.  I could only get up to 6 wrong, but I got 8 wrong.  Stupid red and yellow arrows.
