Seeya later, Xanga

So, I've finally decided to jump ship and move my blog over to bravenet.com.  There were a couple of reasons, but the primary one was the inability of non-Xanga users to post comments.  Ah, well... it's been fun.  Come and check out my new blog here, 'cause I've got other news besides switching sites.

I think I need to either use my cell phone more than I do now, or stop using it entirely.  See, I have a prepaid phone account from Verizon - basically, I go down to Radio Shack every 2 months or so, spend $30, and get X number of minutes added on to my account.  The catch is, said minutes are only good for a given period of time.  On Wednesday, I decided to check my voicemail, as I hadn't used the cell phone in about a week and a half.... ooops, I guess I picked the wrong week to not use the phone, because the minutes (and thus, my account) expired at some point during the week.

Hey, no problem, just take it back to the store and reactivate the account, right?  Nope.  Turns out that, if the guys at Radio Shack were to do it, they'd have to activate it as a new account.  However, as of the beginning of this year, they're no longer allows to make new accounts unless the phone involved has this new tracking system - you may have heard of it, it supposedly allows a 911 operator to pinpoint your location in an emergency - and my phone doesn't support the technology.

So today I went out to the Verizon store in Old Saybrook.  Good news is, I didn't have to but a new phone.  Bad news is, they ended up having to assign me a new phone number.  D'oh.

The other big news today is that my brother finally got his driver's license.  *shudder*  I guess I shouldn't be too scared, after all, I have friends who drive much worse than he does (not gonna name names ), but it's going to get really complicated trying to manage having four cars using a driveway intended for two.  Yet one more reason for me to get out of here ASAP.

Man, it's been awhile since I posted anything... largely due to a vaguely apathetic feeling towards the blog.  Also, I'm looking for a new site to move this to, since it seems only other Xanga users can put up comments. :(  I was looking at the site that Vicki uses, but it appears that someone is using the name Luthiel already. Grrrr.

Anyway, a quick summary of what's happened over the last month... I managed to hurt my back somehow, I'm still not entirely sure, and it's been bothering me off and on over the last few weeks. As long as I remember to do the doctor-suggested stretching exercises in the morning, it's not too bad - but if I forget a day or two (like I did yesterday and Thursday) then I get a wonderful "dagger in the kidneys" feeling if I move the wrong way. Boy, THAT sure gets the day off to a great start, it really does. And since I'm not sure if I'll have to go back to the doctor for it, I'm rather hesitant about quitting my job (and thus losing my health insurance). Blegh.  Still, I think it is getting better, but slowly.

On a more pleasant note, I put up some new pictures, mostly from Cleo (and a few of the cats being cute).  Also on a better note, the weather's finally getting to be tolerable around here.  I'd almost forgotten how nice it is to be able to drive with the windows down and the stereo playing good music at absurdly loud volume. :)  Of course, in a few months it'll be disgustingly hot and humid, and I'll be wishing for a nice artic chill to blow through, but for now, I'm enjoying it.

Fun exercise pointed out to me by Duane - take a block of text (such as my last blog post), and run it through Babelfish twice; English to Japanese, then take the results and translate them back to English.  You then get such results as this:

(EDIT:  I took out the contractions and smileys to make this a bit more translatable.)

Yesterday, whether short, was cunning, it cools. First, I being able to obtain the fact that you sleep slowly did not have the work which is good start always to day and. And, I - PC of NEC palmtop obtained my most recent purchase from eBay. When this, I have tackled NaNoWriMo, in order for the following November to come, me it is not attached, as for my main reason in order is and to obtain in my desk top. As for me when you write somewhere I can choose the relationship of radio Internet if I obtain, if the place can find the coffee, the bean of the chocolate espresso in the heaven, me is it calculates. I vaguely concerning the radio assembly of Middletown must look at what, to my that, the recall it does. Second, I stopped in Goldie and as for Libro of the refuge of north of method until Duane and Jen and the time are passed. There, I for my trombone which I have searched obtained the new mouth piece, (Bach 5G (directly with the favor of LuVdemSquirrelS to proposition)). As for the owner of the store me (as for my parent between the high school my trombone was redeemed from his) the half to verify, in order to try the angle where the small amount which he obtains exactly is used, you ask, and are good to him how oh it informed high. When both is rather sweet angle and there is a money in me, perhaps me you think concerning obtaining one. But, as for the well of Ohio state... however because, I helped him (agreed to operating the buyer who has the interest of that direction), I approximately $15... the mouth piece for sweet transaction am less profit.

Yesterday was, in brief, wicked cool. :)  First off, I didn't have work and got to sleep late, which is always a good start to the day.  Then, I got my latest purchase from eBay - a NEC palmtop PC.  My primary reason for getting this thing is so that, come next November, I won't be tethered to my desktop when I'm working on NaNoWriMo.  I figure if I can find some place to write where I can pick up a wireless internet connection, get coffee and chocolate-covered espresso beans, I'll be in heaven.   I vaguely recall something about wireless set up in Middletown, I'll have to look into that.

Secondly, I stopped by Goldie & Libro in North Haven on the way up to hang out with Duane and Jen.  There, I got the new mouthpiece for my trombone that I've been looking for (a Bach 5G ( thanks to LuVdemSquirrelS for the suggestion)).  The owner of the store semi-recognized me (my parents bought my trombone from him back during high school) and asked me to try out a few used horns he'd just gotten in, and to let him know how good they were.  Both were pretty sweet horns, and if I had the moneym, I might think about getting one.  But, oh well...  However, since I helped him out (and agreed to steer any interested buyers in his direction), I got the mouthpiece for about $15 less... sweet deal. :)
