Too much realism? Reaction or overreaction?

After tuesdays tragic events the computer gaming industry has reacted by changing and postponing games. I can see why games would be postponed, since trying to market anything violent would be bad taste, no to mention that a lot of people has other things on their mind than buying computer games. I'm more puzzled about the changing of games that are in some way related to New York and the WTC.

The one game that I feel illustrates my point the best is Red Alert 2. Most major stores in the US has removed RA2 from the shelves. Why? Because the intro (and the box cover) shows New York under attack by enemy forces. The WTC is among the buildings hit by enemy fire. However, before this weeks events, this was mentioned as one of the great things about this game. The realism. Russians attacking the US. Actual US cities being overrun. Attacked. Bombed. So what happend now? It became too realistic?

In my opinion, a lot of the measures taken after events like tuesdays, bear the distinct mark of being rushed decisions. I'm guessing this is because people are powerless in these situations, and feel that they need to do something.

Last, I would like to point out that I am not an American, and that thís may be the reason, if my opinions are not like those of the American public.

Also, have no doubt that I also mourn the tragic events that happend on tuesday.

Stuck in front of the tv?

The washingtonpost.com site has an article called The Images That Won't Let Us Go that fits perfectly, at least on my (and as far as I can tell, some of my coworkers as well) situation.

Since I got the link from a Slashdot story, you can also go debate the article there.

Oh my god

Well, I guess you've already heard the news. The largest terrorist attack ever has just been carried out in the United States.

It seems to have been an extremely well-planned attack, with two hijacked passenger planes hitting the World Trade Center within 18 minutes, causing both towers to later collapse. 50.000 people daily work at the WTC.

Furthermore, a plane has hit the Pentagon and a second one was reportedly heading for it, when it crashed outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 20.000 people work at the Pentagon.

Besides these four plane attacks, there are also reports of several bomb attacks.

There is really no way that words can describe the full effects of the attacks. It is simply such a horrible and completely meaningless series of events.

Everyones thoughts should be with the victims, and their family and friends.

A self-fulfilling prophecy

It seems the guy with the half empty glass was right anyway. Either that, or my life is just exceptionally boring at the moment. Actually, I think it's a bit of both.

Anyway, I'm going to try to improve the site. For starters, I've removed the Java News box. It got it's news from several sources, resulting in the same news been present in the box several times. Secondly, I'm going to work a little with the colors on the site. I originally thought that it would be cool with a darkish site, but I've since changed my mind about that.

Ofcourse, the most important thing is more updates. I'll do my best.
