Nadya's writing and illustrating a new book. So far I've only seen the cover. The title is "The Pony and Mealworm Parade". I can hardly stand the suspense.

We've gotten a second offer on the farm, which means maybe we have a better chance of getting the bank to accept a short sale. They get to choose which offer to accept. Personally, I like the idea of owner occupancy, but I get no say. (One offer doesn't plan to live there.)

Bought the farm?

Actually, this post is more about selling the farm. We've had our farm on the market for 18 months. We bought a house and moved from the farm to the city (cutting 60 miles each way off husband's commute) which seemed to precipitate the mortgage crisis. Then we put our farm on the market, precipitating the housing crisis. Next, I thought about going back to work as the kids are getting a bit older - suddenly everyone and their dog are being laid off. Sorry! I didn't mean to...

Anyway, I know I'm not responsible for any of the above. At least I know it in my head, if not my heart.

Today I have completed a huge pile of paperwork to be submitted to the banks we owe for the farm, begging them to let us sell the farm for less than we owe them. I sure hope they'll agree, as their only other alternative, really, is to foreclose. We've used up basically all our resources (what the falling stock market etc haven't eaten up) and there's just no way we can keep it up. Surely they will see that we are turnips now, and everyone knows you can't get blood from us!

And I utterly hate the idea of the farm sitting there empty any longer. There's people who want to live there - let them! The farm *wants* people to live there. On several occasions during the decade-plus we lived there, people would randomly stop in and tell us about when their friends or family lived there. For most of its existance, it's been a very happy place as far as I am aware. My youngest was born in the master bedroom...

Hoist with my own Petard

Last year as my two oldest were writing letters to Santa, Nadya (then just turned 6) was being snide to her younger sister, Tina (then 3, almost 4). Tina didn't know how to write and was writing lines of scribbles and random letters. I told them that Santa had lots of experience reading kids' letters, and was able to read all of them, even those written in scribbles.

This year, they're *both* writing their letters to Santa in scribbles, and not sharing with me what they are writing, because "Santa will know what we say." I'm hoping that I'll get some hints somehow. Perhaps they will read their letters to their lovies (ponies for N and duckies for T) so I can overhear.

Anyway, Nadya lost a tooth today, her fourth. This is the first one where we've actually had the tooth. The first two disappeared and may have been swallowed. The third fell out in the van and was almost immediately lost in it. Nadya knows that I'm the Tooth Fairy, but is still excited to put the tooth under her pillow. She knows fairies, dragons, unicorns, etc., are all make-believe, but she still truly believes in Santa. I don't mind if she doesn't grow up too fast. I can't believe how fast it goes and how fast they grow up.

Well, all did not go well. We've fallen out of escrow as they couldn't get a loan arranged. *sigh*

On a totally different note, Rowena just came into the room repeating loudly "Mama, are, mama, are!" I looked, and she was holding up a piece of the alphabet puzzle - with an R on it... The next three puzzle pieces did not contain the letters she was chanting, though.

We're in escrow. If all goes well, we close in 30 days. I hope they'll love the farm as I have.
