I've a friend (who shall remain nameless) who has an unusual way of breaking the ice at parties. On Saturday, he said something that caused a shocked silence around the table, would almost certainly be blocked by your firewall and, if the government is policing the internet as it should, could well get me arrested just for repeating it.
Despite this, it actually wasn't a bad opening gambit. It certainly made me less shy about talking to the guests I didn't know. Those of us still unable to erase the mental image certainly remember the party (I'd better point out he was the host). Perhaps there is something noble about forever being known as 'that awful man' for the greater good... |

OK, so I was just writing a post about Gerry Stoker's article in Public Administration - basically, it is a really engaging take on the New Labour 'what matters is what works' approach - when click!
Thunderstorm...powercut...
I know the two probably aren't related, but I've decided against rewriting the post...y'know, just in case. |

I also need to congratulate my good friend Coop who is just starting a new career in the cut-and-thrust world of copy editing! Go Coop! Her excellent blog is a must for all those of a literary persuasion (although it is updated even less frequently than this one...)
