| wow....chicagoans are really hard core cubs' fans. walgreens'
chicago board review is this week, and as a social event, they got
cubs' tix for the new grads. it was my 1st professional sporting
event & i must say wrigley field is kinda cool. there's no
parking lot at wrigley field, so we were bused into chicago from a
suburb. the drive's only supposed to take 30 min...but b/c we
left at 5, we didn't arrive at the field til 6:45! we were
also given these $10 vouchers for food...so...i spent only $1.25 for an
all beef hot dog, fries, and a souvenir cup of diet coke.
awesome! unfortunately the "cubbies" lost to the reds but i had a
great experience overall. can't wait for the next cubs' game on
june 27th!
met some of the other corporate interns today. they aren't pharm
students, so they're much younger than me. man...i felt
ancient! but it was nice mingling with everybody.
so i could definitely get used to the corporate environment. now all i have to do is move up the ranks....hmmm....

| Chicago's a really nice city. Lots of culture, history, beautiful architecture and scenery. I can't wait to start exploring with the rest of the interns. The corporate apts we're staying in are really nice. Fully furnished (including all appliances, furniture, linens, and towels) and all of our bills (cable, electricity, & water) are already paid for. It's pretty luxurious considering that previous years' interns stayed at some college dorm nearby. Plus, this year the girl's lucked out. They're only 2 girls, so we each get our own rooms. The 4 boys have to share 1 apt...so they're 2 twin beds per bedroom. Thank god it's not the other way around...i can't imagine having to share a bathroom with another girl especially since i get up at 6 am everyday!
Work starts everyday at 8 am & we get off work at 4:30. Major change of pace from working in the stores where the hours are variable. We also get a full hour for lunch (even better!) & we don't clock in or out. They just automatically bill us for a 40 hour work-week. Awesome! The cafeteria here's not too bad either...they serve a fish dish everyday, sandwiches, veggies, fruits, etc.
Currently, i'm working in the governmental affiars department. So, i've been doing a lot of reserach regarding the "practice of telepharmacy across state lines." It's pretty interesting...NABP is trying to get some legislation passed that would require pharmacists to register to practice across state lines. That way, the pharmacist can be held liable by the state in which they are licensed and the patient's state. Plus, I'm working on another project that has me going through Delaware's Pharmacy Act. Fun stuff...i'll admit sometimes thew ork's kinda tedious, but it is rather interesting. Like...did you know that the definition of "technician" varies from state to state thereby dictating the max ratios (if there is one) in that state? I think i'm just learning a lotta random facts. Next up...pharmacy marketing.
But corporate life is something very different. I share an office with one of the interns, and we've all got laptop computers to work on. We go to work everyday (guys in shirt & tie...ladies in closed toe shoes and blazers) and then we have free time after 4:30. So different from when we finished class & then had to figure out when to study. Me & 2 of the guys hit the gym right after work everyday.
My auntie also came by last night & dropped of a ton of food! I have groceries for like a couple of weeks! &...she brought a rice cooker & rice. Thank god! I was in total rice withdrawal!
Anyways...if any of ya'll out there are thinking about coming to chicago...lemme know!
| after finishing my last round of finals...i can honestly say i'm not going to miss cram studying a semester's worth of stuff over a few days. i'm also moving to chicago next friday, so my list of things to do before i leave:
monday: grab dinner with some friends tuesday: outlet shopping + tower tour wednesday: tubing/lake party/schlitterbahn...undecided water activity thursday: wrap up all paperwork stuff friday: leave for chicago
& somewhere in there...i've gotta pack up my clothes.
PS...i passed kinetics! hooray!
| it's strange. i remember weekends before finals as being
all-out cram sessions where one hopes that a semester's worth of
material will somehow stick and get you through the final.
but...somehow this semester's a bit different. maybe it's because
i know that this is my last
round of finals...or maybe it's because i simply lack the motivation to
even care. whatever the case may be, i don't regret the "wasted"
study time because i've been able to spend time with my friends before
we all head off to rotations. and with that said, i'd also like
to thank them for taking the time out from studying to just hang out
and play for one last time. i love ya'll very much and wish
everyone the best of luck! pix to follow...

| The location: 3801 N. Capital of Tx Hwy (off of 360 & westlake in the davenport shopping center)
The feel: casual european café split into two areas: 1 for coffee/dessert patrons & another for "full service" (restaurant) patrons
The food: casual italian
The price: relatively inexpensive, with the most expensive entrée priced at $11.95
Overall rating: 7.0 out of 10.0
Overall, a very cute café with a fantastic prix fixe menu! For
only $16.95, you can enjoy your choice of salad (mixed greens, greek,
or caesar), entrée or pizza, and dessert (various pastries or
gelato). Extremely well-rounded wine menu.
For the 3 of us, we tried the soupe du jour (clam chowder), greek
salad, & the mixed salad. Clam chowder seemed somewhat out of
place at this restaurant as I'm usually expecting a nice
minestrone. Nice portion sizes for the salads with plenty of
mixed field greens (arugala, spinach, red leaf lettuce, frisée,
radicchio) for the mixed salad and plenty of romaine lettuce, feta
cheese, & olives for the greek salad. My one complaint for
the mixed salad: the walnuts should have been toasted & carmelized
to provide a sharper contrast to the balsamic vinagrette.
Otherwise, the salads were a nice preview for the rest of the meal.
My frutti di mare (linguine served with mussels, shrimp, fish, and
scallops all in a spicy tomato sauce) was excellent. Just enough
seafood for the pasta so that you weren't overwhelmed with a plate of
noodles. The sauce wasn't what I would consider spicy, but there
was a definite "zip" to it. Michael's veal was tender and plated
with spinach & proscuitto served on top of a cream sauce.
However, this entrée is not served with pasta so you may want to take
that into consideration.
Dessert was definitely a pleasure. I had the Chocolate Fondant:
layered chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache. Beautifully
balanced cake that wasn't overly sweet, but yet satisfied that sweet
tooth/chocolate craving. The berry cheesecake was made using
marscapone cheese (rather than cream cheese) making it very soft and
silky smooth. Needless to say, desserts were quickly finished.
Final comments: UNO
360 is a great place to relax with friends and enjoy a nice glass of
wine or a cup of coffee. Very attentive service and a
knowledgeable sommelier enhance the overall experience. I'd also
recommend this café as a nice first date setting as there are plenty of
options on the menu, and the coffee/dessert side offers plenty of
seating for more private conversation.
