The June Photos

3rd Pro Mechanical Engineers Go-Kart Day

it was a project for their computer-aided design class. the students worked in groups - researched, designed and sent their drawing to the workshop for building. Raymond said that it felt like being a part of the F1 crew. it was really inspiring to see how the hard work of these students paid off! well done!

The Go-kart from Raymond and Sam's group

Part of the race is that you have to go through these cones which tests your maneuvering techniques

something happened to the go-kart. it stopped suddenly. however, the group, in all their coolness and chill-ness, with hands in the pocket, walked towards the kart to check it out. and when all's done, in all their coolness, hands in the pocket, walked back to camp.

i found it... funny. haha. sorry. my sense of humour a bit different de :p

pretty exciting Thursday! now i know what the engineers had to go through and what caused Raymond those sleepless nights! but it was all worth it! :D well done again guys!

Saturday Snow
And then, on Saturday, it snowed! super unexpected snow! oh my gosh!!! but since there are already so many pics of the snow in the blogosphere... i will just put 2 that can best depict what i wanna say.. ;)

the pretty sight of snowflakes falling from heaven
...oo, and eating ice-cream in the snow (ice-cream courtesy of Wan Yin)

Jerica's Visit
Jerica, a friend of Raymond, visited CHCH. she's studying in Melbourne and is an amazing woman of God! And thanks to Jerica, whenever i see the abbreviation 'chch', i can't help but giggle at the way she pronounced it. haha. sorry Jer, but it's just too funny! :p

so we went to Arthur's Pass for 2D1N. it was raining though, else we could have done some walks. But it's okay.

We passed by Castle Hill (where the battle scene of Disney's Narnia I was filmed) on the way. it was covered with snow! what a pretty sight!

the rocks are astonishingly huge!

we had a great time walking and crawling on the snow up the slopes. very slippery :)

On the way back the next day, the snow had melted away. But oh, it was definitely another pretty sight!

ooo... and a funny moment... :p
Jer: Why are they running away from me? Come back!

The smell of freedom!

Raymond's car-full of memories ;)

And a blissful ending at Godley Head Walk

Oooo...  not forgetting International Cultural Night at our church! check out Bern's blog!

till then, back to uni and studying! gambate!

Melbourne 2008

this is my 3rd time to melbourne; but this time, we mostly explored the place on our own. pretty exciting yet can be quite tiring too.. :)

i guess if i studied there i would love the place.. but i think after a few years of very simple transport system, the trams and trains and buses still frighten me :p

melbourne is unique. Kath puts it: "it's so artsy!"

indeed, even the university was uniquely artsy! a lovely blend of modern and historical architecture! not to mention the other places around melbourne.

for me, melbourne people are spoilt for choices, especially when it comes to food! haha. i ate so so much! :p

in short, melb basically has everything for holiday-makers. it's a good holiday place to be :)

...beautiful night scene along Yarra River

Federation Square and outside the state library

we walked, and walked, and walked... and finally found the durian gelati!!! yay!!

met Uncle Peter Cheng and his wife, Aunty Pat. They brought us for this awesome, superb, fantabulous, smacking-licious vietnam meal!

Queen Victoria Market has meat; deli; fruits and vegetable, general retail... everything! man..my mouth was watering at the antipasto and seafood all the time!

...just had to take a picture of the jandals... as i told mum: 我现在是穿拖鞋走天下了!too much effort to wear shoes :p

...the amazing temporary remnants of the limestone cliffs, also known as The Twelve Apostles.

...at the Loch Ard, famous for a survival story that happened in 1898.

...dad reckons this rock structure looked like a layered ice-cream cake... ok, dad, it even has cherries on top ler! :p

...my favourite pic with mum taken at the Memorial Arch

Arthur's Pass 2008

i am so gonna go back there again to do some of the walks; spot some birds; cave-stream; castle hill... and have fun! anyone keen to join me? :)

a road trip along Arthur's Pass...
.

and west across the amazing viaduct...

and a walk up many flights of stairs to the Devil's Punchbowl Fall...

castle hill.. i will be back!

they say jumping will help you grow taller.. i hope it's true :p
man! don't you love the hills?

Adelaide 2008

Adelaide is one of the sister cities of Christchurch. You can read more about the sister cities programme here. Adelaide is pretty much similar to CHCH, but it was way bigger, but it was still quiet. However i dun think it has a 24-hour supermarket there such as in CHCH :P

it also has Victoria Park and the exact same statue of Queen Victoria. And.. it has Chinatown! :D

some pics.. :)

the church that dad and mum had wanted to visit for 2 years. it is a community-based church that has contributed massively to the community of Adelaide.

ern chee the future dentist :p went to visit her church, Paradise Community Church :) was a good night of worship service :)

the bamboo area in the Botanical Gardens. dad was funny. he has been posing a lot this whole journey :p

these amazon lily leaves were massive!
i could imagine elves and fairies having a tea party and dancing and music and laughter all around the leaves :)
so fun!

i liked this. reminds me about the word of encouragement about being an anchor;
and the Anchor
(Hebrews 6:19 - ...We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure...)

by the river opposite the uni. i forgot the river's name.. paiseh :p

The University of Adelaide was beautifully red and historical. All the buildings were basically pretty close to each other, which would make it easier to walk around university. it was at the north of the city centre, with the musuem and art gallery just right next to it :) loved the architecture of the uni! :)
