We were wheels up at 2220 Kuwait City local time.  I'm in Shannon, Ireland now, enjoying a pint of Beamish and relaxing a bit.  Another long leg and I'll be in GA.  I've gotta tell ya, I've never been so happy.

Leaving Iraq very, very, VERY soon!  A week or so at Ft. Stewart, and then I can finally take off these ACUs for a few months.

I can't believe how much stuff I've accumulated here.  I have mailed  home about 175 lbs. of gear and other things and I still have a rucksack, Army duffel, and assault pack that I am bringing home with me.

In about two weeks I'll be posting like crazy about all my experiences, once all this craziness has subsided.

At 0245 on Easter Sunday, I rolled in the gate, completing my final combat patrol in Iraq.  I figure that I have more than 150 under my belt now.  I rolled in playing "Disarm" by the Smashing Pumpkins on my iPod (my favorite song, and title-appropriate).  Easter, the perfect day to finish.

Today I help get the final batch of gear through Customs.  Now, nothing to do but wait.  This is it!

Many, many heartfelt thanks to all of you who have supported me throughout my tour.  I am working on several longer posts, some war stories and some post-tour analysis, so be on the lookout for those.

Living in a tent, the Internet can be harder to get to, especially with all the shutdowns we've been having lately.

Things are really busy right now as we work on handing over our AO to the new folks from Minnesota.  They seem like good guys, and their unit sure has spent a lot of cash on all the toys for their weapons!

Just a couple of weeks to go 'til I'm done for good.

The phones and Internet connection have been down for several days, so I haven't been able to post.

I spent several hours yesterday in a sniper position with the M24 sniper rifle.  It's a nice piece of kit, and later on that evening I took it out and shot it for a while.  For those interested, the M24 is a Remington 700 BDL in 7.62x51mm NATO with a McMillan fiberglass and kevlar stock.  A 10x Leupold scope w/ BDC cam tops it.

Just four or five more missions to go!  I can taste the freedom.
