I'm back!! (Having some problems with typing Chinese on this new computer...) Thanks to God for bringing me through such a lovely trip to Hunan. Although it was very HOT, and the train ride back was terrible... BUT I love my group, I love my friends and I love Youxian people! Fun "fingernail painting party"... =)
My class was really good (both in conduct and English standards). Even though we hardly won any prizes, the most prized was our friendship! I always say that how much English we taught is not the main point, but how much love we brought to them! Group 11 - Double Top!!
Another memorable experience was visiting an old farmer. She's 58 years old, and has two grandchildren. She has to work in the fields herself. Her older son died from a coal mine accident, and both her younger son and his wife are working in other cities. Her right eye is blind because she chose to use the money she had for her grandson's education. I felt so sad for her circumstances. We've heard of coal mine accidents, poor farmers, not having enough money for school, blindness, migrant workers etc. and all the problems China is facing - but I only feel the true impact of it when I've met a real family with these problems. Despite all this, she was very kind to us and treated us to some very sweet melons and asked us to stay for lunch! I'm so touched by her kindness. My student, Belinda, and the cute baby granddaughter of the farmer.
We also visited a welfare home. There were some old people with no relatives, and some babies with cleft lips. We didn't help them do anything, but I was glad we could bring some love and company to them. =) Right after I came back, I joined the first part of the "Ethical Leadership and Professional Endeavour Course" at HKU. Did the Multiple Intelligences test, turned out that I'm a linguistic and intrapersonal person. Interesting... Also did a drawing of a vision of my future. turn your head to the left to see... xP
Had tea with Yee and dinner with Robyn yesterday. I've heard of how much fun everyone had at the MC Camp reunion and fellowship the week before! Miss you all!! Really want to join everyone a.s.a.p.!! I'll be bringing Hunan souvenirs to church this Saturday - we can have it after Youth Worship. =) |
