| heard the review on Filmspotting before watching this film, being a fan of Darren Aronofsky i just can't pass up this film simply because of one bad review. So, i took a leap of faith and found out the hard way that this film was nothing like Requiem for a Dream. It provides you questions instead of answers, condamnation instead of salvation. As we follow protagonists through their past, present, and future, i never quite get rid of the feeling that i've intruded into unknown territory, with pieces of story missing that's impossible for me to fully appreciate the concept behind this film. Yes, i know Aronofsky tries to explore the realm of true love. But it is hard to find satisfying answers in an overly devoted conquistador, a workaholic medical resercher, and a mysterious bald guy. They (all played by Jackman) elude answers like Aronofsky eludes to give details of their existence. This film is crossword puzzle that you have to fill in most of the blanks without clues. Aronofsky has always made interesting films in the past, you have to respect the man for his nerve and persistence. But it is nothing like the daring experiment of Requiem, or by any mean as successful. rating: 4/10 p.s. i changed my mind ab closing this site, just can't find a better place to dump my reviews. I watched this film a few months ago, trying hard to catch up | | |

I'm going to give it a rest on Xanga, two sites I can manage, but anything more than that, I'll have to choose my priority...so, visit me at http://andiecinema.blogspot.com if you feel like it. These days I'm basically glued to the computer most of the day, so twitter me or msg me, i'm fine with both ^^
| | Currently Watching Perfume: The Story of a Murderer By Ben Whishaw, Francesc Albiol, Gonzalo Cunill, Roger Salvany, Andr?s Herrera, Simon Chandler, David Calder, Richard Felix (III), Birgit Minichmayr, Reg Wilson, Catherine Boisgontier, N?ria Casas, Carlos Gramaje, Sian Thomas, Michael Smiley, Walter Cots Wanguemert, Perry Millward, Jan Cort?s, Berta Ros, Alvaro Roque see related | "Perfume" challenges the filmmaker to find the most appealing way to depict a sense that's completely irrelevent in cinema, the sense of smell. Lighting plays an important role in this film, that I distinctly remember thinking half way through the movie that "it's impossible to give smell a visual identity." And maybe that is why this film doesn't try to convince us the existence of scent, but rather our undeniable reaction to it's existence. It is through the protagonist's interaction with every distinct scents around him, that I find it possible to identify with this impossible task to "smell" something out of a film.
Smell triggers something that's similar to what sight and sound bring, but deeper in the sense that it can only exist inside our minds and memories.
