Took Zack and Ariel to Zack's school's sing-along Wednesday evening, while Ken cranked out his final paper for film analysis class. After singing, there are store-baked cookies. It is now my considered opinion that store-baked cookies are (pardon my French) teh suxx0r. I've only ever been apathetic to them in the past, but now I've decided to escalate my feeling to Active Dislike. They're not so much baked as... congealed. *Shudder.*

I also put up our holiday lights on Wednesday. Both first and second story this year! It's one of the only houses on the block that's lit. One of these evenings we'll go for a drive and peep at lights.

Today I'd like to buy our tree--finally!--and start mixing up the cookie dough. Oh yeah, and keep cleaning.

Watching a bit of TV lately. Ken and I watched "Half-Blood Prince" over three nights--it's really long! I thought it was quite well done. Less showy and obvious with the background bits of magic (some of the portraits didn't even move!); more moody and intense overall. In sum: more grown-up. Don't know if it stands on its own without you having read the book first, of course, but it seemed pretty faithful to what I remember of it.

I watched a Dr. Who movie: "Pyramids of Mars." With a title like that, how can I *not* watch? Unfortunately, there were no shots of pyramids, on Mars or otherwise. Now watching: "The Duchess of Duke Street." It's like "The House of Elliott" except with a cook instead of a fashion designer and it's 1910-ish instead of 1920s. After two episodes, I am on fire to learn what happens next.

Zack took his first big-boy shower last Sunday. He was in a hurry, so I suggested a shower would be faster than a bath. He thought the water tickled, but he was game to learn how to wash his own hair. FlyLady would be proud of me; I taught him that the shower needs to be wiped down afterwards. Gotta start those habits early! He could stand to be a little more cautious, though, so I'll continue to act as a lifeguard for awhile.

Breon's been making mp3s out of Mom & Dad's vinyl records. I have several new/old Christmas albums on my computer now. What a lot of warm feelings they bring back! I hope Ken can make the Roku work to stream from a computer again. I have lots of playlists to inflict on share with people!

Starting with the cookie swap party on Sunday. This song is my all-time favorite for getting the party started.

WOO-HOOOO!!!

I made my Wii Fit goal! 20 lb in one year -- 6 weeks early!

GO ME!

Brr!

Big storm coming through; it's supposed to get down to the 20s tonight. I moved some of my more delicate/expensive plants from the backyard (shady) to the front porch (2 hours of sun) and have a sheet to put over them. Today I harvested about 2 dozen lemons and turned them into lemon juice. I don't know if the green lemons on the tree will survive the frost or not, but at least I got in the ripe ones.

Have been watching the old series "All Creatures Great and Small." It's perfect for relaxing with; there's absolutely no conflict to speak of. It's like a warm bath. Makes me want to re-read the book.

Mulling over what to make for the cookie swap this year. Chai spice girls again for sure. Maybe some lemon squares. Definitely the sugar cookies. I'm within 2 lb of meeting my Wii-Fit goal. Don't know if I can make it this month!

Notes for blog entry

Kids and I sick all last week. Thanksgiving cancelled. Went to Modesto on the weekend, and had leftovers.

Gearing up for Xmas. Starting to pull decorations out of storage. Planning lights for window. Thinking about what kind of greeting card to make.

Ariel now sometimes refers to herself in the third person. Kids are weird!
