Cechetti Summer Ballet School

Ah yes...
I've finally gotten around to blogging about it after almost 2weeks of leaving Summer School.
It was AWESOME as always!!!! I enjoyed every single moment of it and definitely AM going back next yr if I get the chance, most definitely I am.
This time around, I was the only one who went back who were from last yr's Msian batch.
There were the two KL girls, Swee and myself; the two KB girls, winner of Cat3 scholarship Lee Jia Xi and friend Chang Cher Li; the Ipoh girl, winner of Cat2 scholarship Loo Siu Ling and these two other Ipoh girls whom we only met on the day of the arrivals at Ormond Col itself.
l-r CherLi, Wai Yan, Kai Xin, Jia Xi, Siu Ling, Swee swee and myself.

During the day of arrival we didn't do much except me showing the other 4 girls around the college and us snapping photos of the scenery.  Oh, but that was only after we dragged our luggage up to our rooms on the 1st floor this time. And as luck would have it, I wasn't fortunate enough to have a room with a sink in it this time. It is very inconvinient!!! Grr...  Instead I had like, this old fireplace which is no longer in use anyways.
Cher Li kept saying how cool it is that I shld get a room with an old fireplace but I so privately thought that how the other 3 of them (Swee didn't get a sink too) having a sink wld provide so much more convinience as they wouldnt' have to frequent the bathroom just to do a simple action like washing your hands or brushing your teeth in the morning.

Not only till the late afternoon did we come across Kai Xin and Wai Yan who had arrived a day before and stayed over at this a lady called Rebecca's place. And as usual after dinner there was the usual fire drill, what with Ormond College being the most susceptible to burning down building in the whole of Victoria.
Yes, a truly encouraging thought...
After that we were also told into which groups we were in for our Cheoreos. This time around I was to be with Emily and Chris (this yr's HeadBoy) together with CherLi.

Me, Emily (one of my choreos for this yr)

The food was as good as ever. I mean, it wasn't gourmet or outta-this-world tastiness, but it definitely is above average where food is concerned in a dancer's world. Few would expect such food at a Summer Ballet School, but yes! the food here is as good as it gets.
And as for the theory that dancer's don't eat, then it's definitely been proven wrong from the way I see most of the dancers present eat.

Classes were alright. I guess I shan't elaborate on that as that probably shld be done in the DanceArt blog instead. So all I can say is, the teachers were as awesome as they were last yr. Me with Christine Howard, Character teacher.
We still got Christine Howard for Character, Chloe Dallimore for Production and Mr. Colin Peasely and Ms. Valrene Tweedie for our Classical classes this yr. Ms. Valrene Tweedie
We got the handsome Rohan Browne for Jazz with Brett Duffy and Jo Lloyd for our Contemporary.
They were much fun!!!
Especially Jazz classes. Me with Rohan Browne, Jazz teacher.
ALthough the warm-up very nearly killed all us Inter/Adv students every time we did it, we still loved the rest of the class.  However we just as much screwed up our Jazz no. on the night of the concert - it was totally hilarious! He had to rush to complete the last few steps of our dance and during the actual dance we completely BLEW IT! Swee and I with Brett Duffy, our Contemporary teacher.

Hahahhaa.. but it was such fun.
Contemporary was truly unique this yr. But we got to do these really cool stunts and all, so it wasn't that bad after all. Unfortunately I can't say the same for our Contemp performance though. Inter/Adv A did great for their dance by Jo Lloyd, but I'm afraid we didn't give Brett a chance to pride over us.
Lol.. I can't wait till the dvd arrives and I see how messed up we all look.
But Production!!! Oh!!! It was just so FANTABULOUS!!!! Me and Chloe Dallimore, our Production teacher.
Ask any Inter/Adv student and they'll give you the same reaction!!!!!! hahaha...
We did "All That Jazz" from Chicago and Chloe made it so much fun for us that we absolutely loved every single moment of it as we were performing it on Concert Night. Oooooh.. it was like, this close to being 100% perfect!!!

About 5girls were chosen from Inter/Adv to do our Repetoire this yr. Kimberly Vause was in charge and she taught us the Le Corsaire piece for our repetoire. Grade 5/6 did their version of Red Riding Hood from Sleeping Beauty and I thought it was pretty cute!

Oh, and we weren't the only international students of course. The Japanese from Bangkok were here again, but only Ayaka Nishimura was one of them from last yr. There were other Ayakas as well, apparently it's a real common name.
And there was one Japanese boy too - Tetsuo Yamamoto who was in my class, Inter/Adv along with the Ayakas Nishi and Enami.  5Japanese altogether.
And there were also these 6 Kiwis. NewZealanders in other words I suppose. A nice friendly bunch.

Choreography was just fantastic. It was the last item on the list and probably the most fun one to dance to. Hehehe.. Courtney's group did a real funny one - Pizza Dance. And she got the 3 boys, Lachlan, James and Robert to dress up as chefs in aprons and chef hats! Hahaha... But it was cool.

OH! And speaking of Lachlan...
Didn't talk much this yr, but we did get photos together. And with David as well! Hahha... Miss them in a way.
Heck. I miss Cher Li the m ost actually!!! She's so funny...

Oh, and as for the scholarship winners..
I don't exactly rmb who won what, but I'm sure that Robert and this other guy who was in Elementary won the half scholarships. There were 3 half-schols this yr. And Matthew won the scholarship!! woohoo..!

The nice lady who provided the night over for Kai Xin and Wai Yan was kind enough to take us out on the last day though. The 5of us were scheduled for midnight flight and we had the whole day ahead of us so she took us for a Melbourne shopping tour! Hehehe..
It was great cuz she really did take us around everywhere and we even went to Bloch this yr! A whole lotta walking in the freezing cold... One of the girls, Jacinta Scott who was also in Inter/Adv came as well, seeing that she's actually Rebecca's ballet student.

I did miss home alot... I missed Scott a whole lot too. But it wasn't as bad as the last time though. And turns out I wasn't the only one. The rest of the Msian girls missed it much more than I did, and although were sad to leave Cechetti, were still eager that they were finally heading back to home sweet home.

Hmmm.. for more pics. Go here and here

A truly unique new yr's eve

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE...

This was supposed to be the 1st new year's eve spent with friends.
Little did I know it would turn out to be so unexpected... Hahaha.

Well, I got to the studio at 3.05pm, yes I was a little late this time. All the dancers were already waiting for me, and after our run-through of all the dances we went for makan at the nearby coffeeshop just downstairs.
Had Mun Yee Min, Holee's treat.
Rode in Tina's car to Holiday Villa and thankfully we didn't come across any jammed up roads that would only delay us so we reached there with just enough time as planned.

Wow... the show was SUCH a rush! This is definitely by far the most hectic show that I've ever performed.
Hahaha, but at least I know how to handle my own make-up now. I always disliked the fact that I'm so entirely dependant on others to do my make-up for me whenever there's an upcoming show.
But thanks to these recent experiences with Ms. Aster and gang I at least don't have to be dependant anymore.
The costumes were complicating and the stage was mini. We didn't exactly dance, we merely did steps on the spot while flashing bright smiles at the so-called audience. The only blunder was that the DJ somehow managed to overlook our Finale and proceeded to present the next event even before we wrapped up ours.  But after being informed by a very insisting Tina they managed to let us wrap it up.
As for the audience, they seemed to be in a very hyper mood with it being New Year's Eve I suppose.
But all in all I did enjoy the show although this time around I was alone. When I say alone, I mean to say that I didn't have a friend with me this time, no one familiar but it didn't turn out to be bad at all.
Thanks to Holee for everything. Thanks to Ms. Aster for letting me gain such wonderful experiences.

By that time I was already so super hungry I could eat almost any amount of food. Well the organizer did buy us some McDs (very kind of them) but it looked fairly unappetizing and I somehow just didn't feel like eating that. I really was craving for food but somehow fastfood just didn't seem to be the right answer.
Little did I know that I was gonna have McD for late dinner anyways, haha.
Scott and Tommie came to pick me up from Holiday Villa around, 10pm. Then we headed to some drive-thru McD nearby to get my dinner.

It's been sooooo long ago since I last had a Double Cheeseburger...
HEAVEN.
Waited quite awhile for the food, there was long queue.

After the food, headed to Scott's uncle's house nearby for awhile. I don't exactly the reason why we went there anyways but I think it was to settle some stuff la...
Hahaha.
Oh, I forgot to mention how Scott reacted when he picked me up and saw my stage make-up on.
He didn't even recognize me when I was standing right infront of his car.
Is it really that bad, people? Sigh, but I'm sure most of you are not used to encountering dancers with stage make-up up-close at all. It's not meant to look attractive when you stand right infront of them. It's supposed to be extremely thick and exaggerated with the reason being:
You have to understand that most of the time, a performance isn't like a dance session held in a studio. First of all the stage is raised up and the audience closest to you is probably 10s of feet away anyways so can you just imagine how far the ppl back are? Imagine if you're at a concert with the cheapest seats waaaaaaaaay far back. On stage with all those blazing lights on you, you NEED such horrifying make-up in order to avoid making you appear pale and drawn.

But because he kept saying that he wasn't used to the fact that I didn't look like me and because Tommie kept mocking me I decided to remove the make-up once we got to his uncle's house. Hahaha.. I felt more comfortable after that anyways.

We were running late... So we tore down the highway at break-neck speed afterwards. However...
Traffic jams are for a known fact forever existent whenever an event such as New Yr's Eve is on.
So... Haha, you guessed it. We didn't make it back in time to G Hill to watch the fireworks at KLCC with a spectacular of KL itself.
WHere were we? While Mich, Jojo, Hsiang, my sis and my parents along with soooo many other Mlwtians we were caught somehwere along Jalan Ampang watching the fireworks from a stationary traffic stand-still in the car.
Hahahah..

The funniest part was when we hit the Elevated Highway - smart me didn't even bother to check whether or not my Touch N' Go card was with me before I told Scott that we could avoid the long queue at the cash line and go straight to the Touch N' Go ones.
Whoopsies! Hahaha.. There was no card in my wallet.
Scott yelled all these not-so-pleasant words at the top of his lungs then.
But luckily the guy working ther was nice enough to let us through if we simply paid him 1.50, which we did.
And it wasn't so bad anyways, at least we managed to skip the long wait had I not made such an idiotic mistake.

Went to Desa Mlwti for supper after that... Oh after picking up the three others from G as well la. Hmmmm..
Had Tandoori Chic. Slept around 3am in my wet hair.

Big mistake.
I must've trashed in my sleep last night, because when I woke up my hair resembled a tangled mass of wild snakes, pretty much like Medusa's.
So I then went to Scott's salon to get my hair back to its shape.

Hmmmm.... And that was my New Yr's Eve. Hahhaa...
Hmmm. I wonder what's for dinner tonight.

Rehearsals Day Two

Heyy....!!!
Hmmm, yeap it was rehearsals again todays.
Thankfully, the steps are still fresh in my mind when I went today. Jojo and Mich came along today!  Hehehehe...

Was supposed to go for a swim initially with the both of them but they were too lazy, so I got up earlier to go for a brisk walk with Mum around Hillside. My eyes were super puffy as I practically went downstairs instantly after I got up.
Went for breakfast in Mlwti with Scott, saw Soo Churn Haw there with his bunch of friends.

Went for lunch with the girls after that at HenKee, it's been awhile since the 3of us have been hanging out together and it feels good to see both of them at the same time again.
As I was talking to Mum on the phone to ask her if she could pick us up she somehow thought that Mich and Jojo were coming to watch me at the studio. I told them what she said and Jo was like, "Jom ah!"
Sooooooo they came along. Hehehe!

We got there late, Mum came after she had her lunch at home so I was like, 10mins late.
Sad thing is, WanTze isn't dancing tomo!
YEsterday itself she'd already msged me to inform me that she wasn't feeling well so it was best if I arranged for my own transport to today's rehearsals.
I didn't expect her to be that unwell that she was actually unable to attend today's rehearsals much less tomo's show...

Hmmm... ah well. Luckily Holee found a replacement already, her name's Guan (I think that's how it's spelled) and she actually looks alot like Kelly Chan. Hehehe.
Poor thing, she had to cram all those dance steps into her brain today itself, so Holee decided that we won't be dancing for the finale instead, we're just gonna be waving this banner thingy around.
But it's alright, Holee taught us the Opening today and I think I've got enough steps to remember already so perhaps one less is a good thing.

So all in all I'll be dancing the Opening No., Sway, Get The Party Started, CottonEye Joe (I think that's the actual name) and the Finale. Hmmm.. Four dances. I'm super excited!!! And blardy nervous at the same time of course.
Hahaha.. perhaps my whinning at our group blog wasn't a wasted effort after all since Jojo and Mich watched me dance for around 2 whole hrs. Haha..
Wonder what was running through their minds though.
I just hope everything goes well tomo; I still kept confusing certain sequences and forgetting what were the next steps in certain songs. Aih...

OH! And we baked mini cheese-tarts at Nina's after that! Hahahaha!
Hmmm, I don't know if you could call it a sucess or not but perhaps cheese-tarts of the sort that we baked are rather easy.  But it's not bad for us first-timers.
I've got no photos from that, but I think Mich will be posting that up soon (she better!) in here.

A long tiring day... See you!

Rehearsals Day One

Yes, today was the first day of our rehearsals. I'll be dancing at Holiday Villa at Subang on New Yr's Eve and this time around it's WanTze and myself again.
Initially it was supposed to be S.Jan and myself, but unfortunately Jan was yet to attend another camp at Rompin around this time so she couldn't make it!
But after a week of not dancing at all and not to mention not stretching much I grew rather stiff without even realizing. And... it was really hell today. Turns out that we'll be doing 5songs altogether on that night and we actually learned all 4 outta the 5 in less than 3 hours...  My brain was on overload and felt as though it was about to explode!!!
The good thing is that some of the dances are cool, I like them! Some were considerably easy but the hard ones were due to the complicated sequences which I just couldn't seem to get right.
But I'm sure it'll get better once we run through it again on the next rehearsal on Friday. (hopefully!!!)
Luckily Holee was patient and kind enough to teach both me and WanTze all the steps thoroughly and ran through them over and over again until she made sure we got it right.
I don't think Ms. Aster will be present at this show again. She was rehearsing with a whole big bunch of other dancers inside the bigger studio for another show somewhere else I suppose. One of the dancers was Chang Huey Sze, the excellent technique-almost-perfect dancer who won the Cat 1 prize in th is yr's classical ballet comp.  The dance steps they did looked rather hard in technique.

WanTze thanks for the ride home!!!
I only had my lunch at 4pm - buns from Bread Talk.
Then Julie wanted to cut her hair; she wanted to try out Scott's hair-dressing skills so went we did to the salon he was working at somewhere in Danau Kota. The place was actually rather easy to find. The problem was - directions were given to us rather badly, and everybody got confused with what one another were saying so it took us rather longer to get there.  And the heavy rain only made it more difficult even.
My sis loves her new hair, and although Scott finds it hard to believe, I'm quite positive Julie wants to go back to him to get her hair cut. Was quite surprised that Scott asked to join him and Mwai for dinner, so I did anyways. Went to Great Eastern for Cosy House and it took us practically FOREVER just to get from Danau Kota to our dinner.  Thanks to the horrible traffic snarl and the heavy rains most probably worsened the condition. Grrr... Somehow Mwai managed to get there way earlier than us although we actually took the same route.
But at least I got to eat my favourite Spore Fried Beehoon lorh.

Tommie came to have a chat with Scott and I as we got back to my place. Haven't spoken to him in a long time though - he's still so funny. Hahha...
They actually came up to my place after awhile, borrowed CDs and watched a bit of School OF Rock.

Oh yeah... I finally tried the [in]famous Paradise at Desa yesterday. The reason why it's so infamous is because of the horrible incident PohLynn told us about one day at one of our night ballet classes. To cut the story short, she found a baked cockroach inside the sandwich she purchased from the very same Paradise I'm talking about!  And ever since then she'd warned us not to go there. But I did anyways, hehehe. Scott brought me there for makan-makan yesterday, so no harm in trying anyways.

Ah alright... that's all for today folks! Muahx!
