Saturday, June 03, 2006

i've been squatting at xanga for more than 1000 days already. i wonder if that gives me an immediate entitlement to an easement or some sort of legitimate premium tenancy of some sort. whatever. i've now moved to:
twirlingtulles.supersized.org. come away with me

today was freezing. the cold permeated through my whole body. my goodness. it's been raining non-stop since this afternoon! whilst nat and i were walking from maccas to meet the rest at unsw, the wind was beating so hard at my face. my lips cracked and my face dried up. goodness. today's talk was really really good. it was given by an evangelical union staff worker on prayer who is also a member from barneys.

so anyway, the thing that struck me most about the talk was when he gave the example of his fiancee. he said, supposing his fiancee was with him the whole day. walked around with him. sat with him as he sat down with other people. supposing he went around telling everyone at uni about how wonderful, beautiful, loving, gracious his fiancee is. supposing he told everyone how wonderful she is to talk to and how she can just sit and listen to him hour after hour after hour. supposing he went around telling everyone this and not once did he talk to his fiancee. how weird is that? you have someone with you everywhere you go, willing to listen to you but you don't really want to talk to them. so it is with us and God. many of us are in the habit of just going around talking about how wonderful and gracious and loving God is. even telling people to have a relationship with God and to talk to Him personally. but then, we ourselves forget to talk to this loving and living God ourselves. how stupid is that. that is my lesson of the day.

i'm so glad i'm going up north (i.e. cairns) for the winter holidays. i can't wait to bask in the sun once again and swim in the sea AND GO HOT AIR BALLOONING! woo hoo!!

the other day, christina came over to watch the monday night television show marathon (desperate housewives, commander-in-chief, boston legal and scrubs) and in between desperate housewives and commander-in-chief we decided to dash over to coles and grab a box of 'heaven' ice-cream (yes, we are those stupid consumers that believe everything they see on tv) to try. it looked so good on the commercials. anyway, whilst lining up at the coles express counter, a young guy (can't be more than 24) behind us yelled out at the only cashier on duty that it was "TAKING TOO SLOW" "GEEZ, CAN'T BELIEVE THIS." "THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE EXPRESS". i was so nearly rolling my eyes. the poor little asian cashier man. was probably scared out of his wits because the guy behind was so aggressive. i noticed also that the agrro guy also seemed and spoke like he had some sort of a social disability. he looked somewhat autistic. not that i have anything against autistic people. it's just an observation. anyway, to my horror, right after the guy behind was making all these anti-social comments, the guy in front (fully suited, middle-aged) started agreeing with the younger guy, "YEAH. THEY'RE TAKING FOREVER." "CAN'T BELIEVE IT TOO.." and i was HORRIFIED. clearly, the guy behind has an anti-social problem, and the guy in front was just egging him on, encouraging such anti-social behaviour. and the guy in front didn't look like he had anti-social behaviour at all. my goodness.

then, both encouraged by each other's behaviour, started banging on the glass telling the poor little asian cashier, "CAN'T YOU GET SOMEONE ELSE TO HELP YOU?" "THERE'S SO MANY EMPTY CASH REGISTERS, CAN'T YOU CALL SOMEONE TO HELP?" the guy, who couldn't really speak english very well, tried his best to talk to them but in the end just ignored them completely. when the first guy reached the cash register (the middle-aged suited man) he said, "I WANT TO SEE YOUR MANAGER!" and the poor little guy was trying to look for someone "in-charge" but couldn't find anyone plus he couldn't leave his post. so it was quite difficult. and after a minute the middle-aged guy said,"DO YOU WANT ME TO STAND HERE AND WAIT OR AM I JUST WASTING MY TIME?" the little man didn't respond. then the younger guy called out from behind us, "DON'T WORRY, I'LL RING 'EM TOMORROW." and then to my exasperation, the older guy declared, "WELL, THEY'LL BE EXPECTED TWO CALLS TOMORROW," and then turning to the rest of us (which happened to be all asian), "ALL OF YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME." we looked away.

christina later told me that the younger guy was really autistic. he lives in the same building as her and he frequently goes to the reception and asks them for paper, scissors, glue, scotch tape etc and then he'll sit in front of them and cut out magazines and whilst cutting magazines he'll tell them what he's cutting and stuff. so i guess even though such behaviour shouldn't be tolerated at all, i guess he has a "medical reason". i just can't believe that the guy in front would encourage such behaviour and exhibit such behaviour as well.

i mean, yes, i have burst into tears once or twice in the international office and yelled at the top of my voice at the people there. but that was for a more severe reason. this is just waiting in line at coles! haha. i know it seems ironic that i, the number one public tantrums queen, can be criticizing other people's behaviour. but their behaviour was really unwarranted. and if they weren't so big i would have said something.
