M.I.A. no longer!

I apologize to my faithful readers for my absence this past month, but I have kicked into high gear with my traveling! I had a very last minute trip planned to Florida to visit my grandparents, who I found remarkably well for their age. As my grandfather says, “The parts are wearing out!” At 96, almost 97, I guess they would be! I hope to be lucky enough to have my parts wear out at that age! A mere 24 hours after returning from Florida I was already on my way to Spain for a friend’s, Eric, wedding! I was able to spend some days in Madrid with a dear friend, Miguel, who I hadn’t seen since the Paralympics in Torino. It was great to see him again, along with his daughters, who become more and more stunning as the years pass (he’s ini deep do-do when they reach their teenage years!!), and parents. Anastasia and Argyro arrived the day before the wedding and we all camped out with Miguel! 3 women…he had his hands, and ears, full!  Nice to see my girls again after departing Doha in mid January. The big day arrived, that none of us ever believed would come…Eric’s wedding day! OXIIIII!!!!! Even after the ceremony it was hard to believe! During the reception our table, consisting mostly of Greeks, started chanting, “AVRIO PANTOFLA”, which literally means, “Tomorrow slipper”, but figuratively means that as of tomorrow she will be beating him on the head with her slipper getting him to do things for her! Slavery!  We hit the dance floor hard, just like old times!! Needless to say, my feet were quite sore the following morning after having danced until the wee hours of the morning! Some of us had other parts of our body being sore the morning after…(BF) It was nice having part of the Torino/Doha group reunited…would have been even better if some of the Beijing gang could have come…after Spain….a hop, skip and a jump over to my beloved Italy!! I couldn’t resist being so close and not going to my home away from home! I spent an amazing week seeing my closest friends, seeing Elisa’s tummy grow with each time I saw her, and spending time with the most adorable little girl…MELISSA! She just gets better and better every time I see her! So active, smart, helpful, cheeky and happy…great personality…just like her mommy and daddy!
All in all I had a wonderful 2 week vacation…great weather, food and friends! What more could I ask for! Back to work now! Today I sanded a wall that had been patched with joint compound…when I was done I looked like a ghost! Yes, it is possible for me to get even whiter! There was a white dust cloud following me wherever I walked! That stuff gets everywhere! And I mean everywhere!

Great...

I've really gotten into running every other day! Thank goodness because after a month in Italy eating everything in sight, I was in dire need of losing a few pounds and toning up a bit. Spring has, I'm almost scared to say it for fear of an immediate blizzard falling on my head, finally arrived! There are a few snow piles hanging desperately on, but the majority of our 51 cm, 20 inches, of snow has melted. Hard to believe that one week ago we were absolutely submerged in snow. The tempertaure has been high 70's for the past 2 days! Crazy! Makes running a bit warmer than I'd like it to be. Today as I head out it started to sprinkle...didn't even phase me, anzi just the opposite. Nothing like a spring rain with the smell of the rain on the warm pavement, one of my favorite smells. The strong winds however made my big hill even bigger as I battled my way up it as dirt and pebbles were whipped into my face, legs, arms. I was a sight to behold when I finished my 4.5 mile run! Completely drenched and covered in gravel! Etsi!

Today I painted a bedroom the most disgusting color ever. For those of you familiar with the digusting medicine, it is a Bepto Bismal pink. I wanted to vomit all day as I applied it to the walls...check it out. The original color was a two toned blue...should have left it that way!

Welcome back to NY State

Mother nature has a sick sense of humor this year. It's almost like she realizes that I haven't been through a winter in years and is prolonging this one just to spite me! This is the view that greeted me this morning, after my brother woke me up at 6,30 literally jumping up and down beside my bed because he has a snow day. Where he's ecstatic, I just want to cry....IT'S APRIL PEOPLE!!!! WHERE IS SPRING?!?!?

The island pace of life

I've been spending the past few days with David and Jennifer on Bowen Island where they live and let me just say that the pace of life here is quite different than in Vancouver. They have such a beautiful spot here in the middle of the wilderness, where the sounds of nature surround them.

The exciting thing to do on a Friday night is checking out tugboats through binoculars and stargazing....just perfect for someone wanting to relax. It is quite a haven they have here. I plan on escaping to it as frequently as possible...if I ever get out here! Working on those details at the moment. I've had absolutely a blast reconnecting with them over great meals, a norm for Jennifer, and fab wine, also a norm...they spoil me so! Jennifer and I went walking around Killarny Lake in the rain forest today. There is a trail that is perfect for running on, except you kinda want to watch where you are stepping as there are roots, rocks and other paraphernalia that tend to jump out and grab you if you are not attentive!

I've noticed than my endurance torwards the evening hours is waning drastically here on the island. I guess that's a good sign of how well I am relaxing. Etsi, etsi!
Tomorrow I will take the 20 minute ferry across the Howe Sound (part of the Pacific Ocean) to Vancouver and meet up with my sister, nephew, brother and borther-in-law for the Easter Sunday service. Can't wait to see my adorable nephew again...spent way too little time with him the first day I arrived here, before heading into the Vancouver offices to meet up with friends. He just keeps on getting more and more cute as time goes by! I'll let you be the judges of that, since I might be a bit partial!

On the road again...

...just can't wait to be on the road again..going places...la-la laaa la-la la laaaa, I can't wait to be on the road again... Departure is finally here!!!!! Hip Hip Hurray!!! I'm not ready yet, but I'm happy anyway!!! Heck, they don't really need their Easter presents, do they?! Details, details! Hard to believe that I will be looking at my nephew sleeping before tomorrow morning....I've promised my sister that I won't fake a sneeze and "accidently" wake him up at midnight......eh eh!

Off for a few hours of work and then to put myself in a catatonic state as I take 3 airplanes to get out to Vancouver...ridiculous!

I'll be seeing a few of my readers soon!!!
