| The trailer for Volver.
In general, foreign movies that are distributed in the US are above average movies. Studios aren't going to take a chance that hasn't done well somewhere, and most US moviegoers aren't inclined to read a movie. Applying this logic, I feel like the movie from Spain can't be that bad. However, the trailer does not make me think so. I have no idea what the movie is gonna be about. It seems like they just took several random scenes from the movie and threw them together with little to no care about how they fit together.
Perceived Plot: None... Some facts. The movie is about mother/daughter relationships. Penelope Cruz's character kills someone and buries the person with a larger women. Spoken Spanish language has a lot of repetetive phrase, e.g. "no, no, no, no" (why did they throw them all near the same spot of all places). And I don't understand what's with the clapping at the end.
So, throwing a bunch of scenes together... BAD. No desire to watch.
| First up is the trailer for The Devil Wears Prada.
This is not a movie that I generally have any interest in watching. First and foremost, it's setting is in a fashion magazine. "Prada" is featured in the title. It has chick flick written all over it. I forsee the plot for this movie to be, small-town girl goes to the big city to make it big, then some fish out-of-water antics while being tormented by all-powerful, overbearing boss that has a hidden human side. In the end, the small-town girl triumphs over these adversities to get her journalism career going.
The trailer seems to take a scene from the movie. It starts with protagonist Andrea Sachs (a very pretty Anne Hathaway) meeting a noticably stressed Emily Charleton, assistant to the fashion magazine's editor Miranda (played by Glenn Close), to apply to be Miranda's second assistant. Andrea is not into the world of "high fashion," and Emily is destined to reject her for this flaw. However, fate has brought Miranda back to the office early, and the fearful workers are quick to adjust themselves Miranda's high standards. By their reaction, I wouldn't be surprised if Miranda fired people on the spot for the slightest errors. Miranda is obviously a confident, cold, and no non-sense person. Spotting Andrea, Miranda decides to do the interview herself. Andrea really does not fit in, something she recognizes, but at the same time, exudes a certain confidence. She is prepared to leave. The scene ends there, but we can be confident that she gets the job, and gets to live the stressed life of Miranda's assistant.
I'm not sure if this is the actual trailer, but since it doesn't have the usual screen of important people's names at the end, and it's very untraditional in general. However, I like it. It introduces the main characters and shows that the tone of the movie will be light and comical. It sets up the rest of the movie very well, making me wonder how Andrea will cope under the devil-boss.
So, in conclusion, I like the trailer for it's untraditional approach, but it still sets up the movie. However, I probably won't watch the movie, because it's too much of a chick flick.
| So a new direction for this xanga that I haven't looked at for months!
Movie trailer reviews! Everyone reviews movies, but who reviews movie trailers? Well, I saw one website after a Google search, but the link was broken.
Most of my movie trailers are viewed on Apple's movie trailers website that is associated with Quicktime, and now iTunes. I will provide links to each of the trailers I'm talking about, in the case of trailers from Apple, they will be in Quicktime format, and sometimes in HD. That's fine by me, since trailers I view in Quicktime have traditionally felt to have higher quality.
It's important to note that some trailers can't be found there, such as the one for Snakes on a Plane.
So trailers will be given a ranking of 1, 2, or 3: ¤ - Trailer sucked and did nothing to make me want to see the movie. ¤¤ - An average ranking for an average trailer that didn't neither makes me want to see it nor avoid it. ¤¤¤ - A good trailer that makes me want to see the movie.
and also a Xanga smiley, because I like smileys.
| In today's Dallas vs. LA Lakers game, Kobe Bryant scored 62 points in 3 quarters of play. The entire Mavs team scored 61 points in 3 quarters of play. Two guesses who won the game. | | |
