| wow I really have not updated this site in FOREVER... aprox 2 years or so.. i was reading some of the posts from before and i cant even remember most of the things i wrote about. Im not sure if i should start updating this again but just for you guys to know, I'm outa peru and in hong kong (where i was born) again. It all seems so surreal though, i got into the university and soon enough a month passed and im already in a flat, having roomates and going to lectures. It feels like yesterday i was craming for my IB's and praying for good predicted grades ...sigh those days are so over and now this is a whole new beginning. Being here in hong kong is sooo different though and apart from saying i had major culture shock, its more like a sense of not belonging. I know it sounds weird because i was born here and all, but its funny how so many people will actually ask if i am local or not.. its weird how they use the term local.. anyways i feel i dont belong anywhere. Back in peru im the chinese girl.. the only one in my group.. the one that stands out for being asian and get stupid stereotypes like oh you must be good in math or know kung fu.. wutevs.. BUT now that im here... im called the peruvian or the latin??? hahaha cuz i look different from the people here, i dress different and even though i speak cantonese.. i dont get the slangs and totally dont identify with the hong kong culture as much as i think i should.. i mean coming back i wasnt expecting to fit in right along, but i never imagined everything would be so different from what i am used to. Some things are better, some arent its a matter of what you think is good or bad .... Say transportation here is rather convenient but you totally take space for granted when you are in another country cuz here EVERYTHING is tiny.. except banks lol... ANYWAYS going back to the point. It seems rather annoying that i dont really fit anywhere cuz ima mix between two totally different cultures.. i see and have met a lot of abc's and cbc's and those are common to have around and they are the nicest ppl and the ones that i actually get along with easier, but someone like me pbc?? (peruvian born chinese) hahaha its sooo weird and random.. i mean i know peru is SUCH a random place but for real peeps its not like im that different. Im rather proud of my unique culture idendity (if you can call it that), or the fact that i can speak perfect spanish, but for once i would also like to feel like i belong somewhere? i dont know if it sounds complicated but right now im still trying to adjust myself to the hong kong fast pasted life style... soooo different from the slow moving city of lima.. which i miss a lot. AGH i guess its all about learning and adjusting and see where that gets me. UNI LIFE is great so far though :) im loving this change... and i know wherever i go and whatever i do God will lead me to the right way. God bless you ppl. vanessa
hk is beautiful though :) |
