REK is the man.  Plus his CD cover matches my background.

Bluh!  I just got back from playing basketball at the AC for two and a half hours!  Whenever you're not in shape like me, that much running up and down the court will literally leave you feeling sick to your stomach.  It's worth it, though.    Nothing a good night's rest and two Powerades can't handle.

The other night I was watching the Mavs game (they won - whoo! - but that's another story), and at about 10:30 the telecast was interrupted by static and a very authoritative sounding voice telling me a tornado had touched down in Collin County.  "Get to the lowest, innermost section of your living establishment," he said.  But UTD is on the very southern tip of Collin County, and the storm was up in the northern half, a few cities away.  So I went outside.  The moon was shining brightly...it was clear to the south.  But up north, this huge cloud billowed up really high, with lightning all over the place.  Pretty awe-inspiring, especially considering that an F3 tornado was on the ground only about a 20-minute drive from where I was standing.

I start a mini-mester next Monday at Richland.  World Religions.  Should be quite interesting.

I know it's a day late but...here's a little something I got from my uncle about the fifth of May:

Most people don't know that back in 1912 Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England.  In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to HAVE been the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.  This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico.  But, as we know, the great ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.  The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, were eagerly awaiting its delivery and were disconsolate at the loss.  Their anguish was so great that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.  The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

Ha...

Well, it's been like 5 months since I wrote an entry longer than two sentences, so I guess I'll break that streak.  I know that most people are fighting through finals week, so I won't brag about starting summer.  But I made it through the semester alive!  Work + school was tough and swallowed up most all my free time, but everything turned out OK.  As for summer plans, I'm gonna be staying in Big D for the most part just a-working.  Next Monday I start a mini-mester literature course.  Come mid-July I'll be coming back to good ol' East Texas for a few weeks; looking forward to that!  And Aug. 19, I'm gonna finally go see DMB!

For those who are curious enough, I started a website:

You should go see Thank You For Smoking...quite a good movie.  Alyssa and I saw it last weekend and had lots of good laughs.

Hooray, Barbaro!  I had a million bucks riding on the Derby today.

I s'pose that's it for now.  Good luck to all with finals!

What a brilliant movie.  Apparently it was Tom Hanks day on TV.  This was on ABC, and Forrest Gump was on TNT.  And Big was probably on Disney or something.

Well, I've been sickly for the last week.  Not too bad, but enough to "put me on the bench."  I got some pills from the UTD doc on Thursday and have been doing pretty much nothing for the last two days.  It's been nice, but I'm starting to get a little restless...

I can't remember if I've commented about who they chose to be the host of the Oscars next month:  Jon Stewart.  I'm really psyched; he's a funny guy.  I remember seeing him on Larry King several months ago, and Stewart made him almost fall out of his chair laughing.  You could hear the camera guys and directors in the background belting out laughter.  And what he said to the guys on Crossfire went right up my alley, about how angry people yelling at each other accomplishes little and only deepens the rift between the left and right extremes of the political spectrum.  But as I say this, watching the Daily Show is a guilty pleasure; realistically, it probably does the same thing, just in a different way.  Still, Jon (I'm on a first-name basis) seems much more level-headed than the Michael Moores and the Rush Limbaughs of the world.

But I digress.

Back to the Oscars...they announce the nominations for this year on Tuesday.  (I read somewhere that among considerations for Best Actor is King Kong.  And no, I'm not joking.)  Me being the movie buff that I am, this whole thing always has me intrigued.  I still think movies are better than books.  Feel free to disagree with me there.

Trivia Question:  What is the hometown of the great Jimi Hendrix.  (Bryan, you're not allowed to answer.)

Later ya'll.
