| Winning the LotteryLet's say you one day win the lottery. If you win 4 million, you have at the very least 2.4 after taxes. Let's spend 1 million on a home, a couple of cars, charity/tithing, paying back debts, an insanely large TV, and about 300 games of pin ball. You've got 1.4 million dollars. If you invested it all and only received 5% interest (like investing in 280 $5,000 CDs), your money would be generating $70,000 annually.
That's free money. You don't need to commute to an office in your suit and tie to buy a CD. You don't need an umbrella policy to protect your business from the money-grubbing retards of the world. Let's completely ignore the whole idea of investment firms, stocks, and angel investments.
How is it that a sane person can win the lottery and be financially ruined in a few short years? It just blows my mind. I can only assume that lottery winners have absolutely no common sense.
In the words of Tevye, "Money is the world's curse. May the Lord smite me with it. And may I never recover!" That's what winning the lottery should be like; you win, invest it, and be cursed with early retirement.
If you win the lottery contact me immediately. Give me all of your money. Otherwise, you may ruin your entire life.

| FamilyLast night Tiff and I had dinner at the table with Sam rather than in front of the TV, and I remembered when I was little. It was a odd to think of myself in my dad's position, and it's difficult to put that feeling in words.
Anyway, I had a customer yesterday that used to do hardware reviews for Western Digital and Seagate, and he gave me two 36GB Raptors for free. They were brand-new, never opened. Sometimes I realy love my job.
If anyone needs some PC cases or hard drives. Let me know, he's still got loads of stuff that he wants to get rid of.

| New ToySo I got an AT&T Tilt. In fact I'm using it right now to post this entry. Overall I'm pleased.
Sometimes the 3G network connection doesn't actually connect, but I can't tell if it's the hardware or Explorer.
One surprising outcome is that I rarely use my PC anymore since I get my email on my phone. I didn't realize how much time I spend just reading email.
Now that I've got my work software installed, the system memory is almost used up. I'll need a Micro SDHD in order to get some MP3s and more pics of Samantha.
I'll probably be posting from now on via my phone.

| Okay, so my spent my afternoon overclocking my rig. All hardware is the same as previously listed. For those who care, my Windows Experience Index went up almost a full point to 5.6. The WEI score for my RAM did go up a full point.
Results: Intell E4400 OC'd to 2.9Mhz (still in progress) - 1160 fsb @ 1.35v (on stock Intel cooling!) 2GB PC6400 OC'd to 928 fsb @ ~2v (I let nVidia nTune set the memory timings) PCIE bus OC'd to 3Mhz EVGA 8800GTS OC'd to 609Mhz core, 903Mhz mem
Cooling: Cooler Master 690 - stock 120mm fans (x3), plus one AeroCool 120mm fan All 120mm fans are controlled by a 3.5" bay Vantec Nexus. Cooler Master 120mm Blue LED fan on the front (untake), one AeroCool Blue LED fan on the side (intake - right over the 8800GTS), one Cooler Master Black 120mm directly above the RAM (intake), and one Cooler Master black 120mm in the rear (exhaust)
Temps: CPU & Mobo averaging 100-115 deg. F per ASUS PC Probe II with the LED fans on low and the black fans on high - PSU fans set on medium (absolutely silent - Vantec Stealth). Placing my hand behind the main exhaust fan (rear 120mm), there is no distinguishable heat - it's around 75 deg in my apartment. Even the PSU blows cool air. The only heat is from the 8800GTS, and it's warm, not hot. I'm really, really happy.
I haven't gotten down to the nitty-gritty with the CPU yet, but I feel like 3Mhz is easily obtainable as hitting 2.9 was a walk in the park. Basically, I got a E6600 for half the cost. Also, I may play with the memory a little more.

| I finally finished building my gaming computer. I plan to upgrade in about 6 months when Intel rebrands, so I skimped on the processor. The quad core procs will be affordable then. Here it is: ASUS P5N-SLI Intel E4400 2GB PC6400 ADATA Ram 320GB SATAII Seagate HDD 40GB ATA/133 Maxtor HDD (left over from previous builds) EVGA 8800GTS 320MB Superclocked (OC'd to 575hz) Lite On DVD Burner 520watt Vantec Stealth Cooler Master CM690 w/ 4 120mm fans Vantec Nexus fan controler Vista Home Premium 64-bit Vista's Windows Experience Index rates it 4.7: Proc: 4.9 RAM: 4.7 Graphics: 5.9 Gaming Graphics: 5.9 Primary HD: 5.7 Overall I'm very pleased, though I haven't challenged it with any intense games yet. We'll see how it does when I can afford Bioshock. | | |
