| baby walkersConcerned moms ( who seem always more concerned about my kid ) suggest that I make use of the walker so Tuhina can learn to walk earlier. However, having read in my bible, " The book on child care" by Dr. R. K. Anand, that walkers are pretty unsafe, I have always been apprehensive about such a suggestion. I never bothered to ask Tuhina's paediatrician cos if it was a concern she would have told me. But yesterday one mom's pitch for buying a walker was exceptionally strong and I came home a wee doubtful so Preetam suggested that I do my own research on the internet instead. After going through various sites selling readers the various kinds of walkers available in the market,I read this : "Putting a baby in a walker is like giving a teenager a Ferrari - a
dangerous risk. That's why, as of April 2007, Canada has banned the
sale of baby walkers." source
hmmmm. I'll try telling "the mom" this who is convinced that her child learnt to walk earlier because of it. I admit there have been a couple of times when I have wished Tuhina would learn to walk quickly so she can play better with the kids on our floor but such wishes are very fleety. I really don't want to hurry her up just so that I get pleased.
Many suggestions that people give me about Tuhina's upbringing are very true to our Indian nature. In my opinion, Indians in general, are very callous about risks and dangers and some ( like my mom's family) take pride in taking risks. Safety , theirs and others, is just not on their agenda.

| time flies..This goes to Fauquet's gentle nudge..:) I smiled as I read his comment and so here's an update:
Had gone to Delhi to meet my sister and her pregnant tummy! :)) She lives in Madrid now and is keeping pace with her career goals. here's wishing her luck. Tuhina enjoyed with her grandparents and the weather in May was unbelievable. it was cool and rainy -very very unlike delhi at that time! Took the spice jet flight in and out. Met some obnoxious Indian fellow passengers, who pushed and jostled despite the fact that I had tuhina with me in a carrier. yo! to bad mannered indian travellers! They complained about everything -right form poor air conditioning to stale food to expensive snacks, to long queues outside the flight's toilet. I lost my cool twice with two pushy men and gave them shit.
Now back in Bombay. Hopefully no more travel without Preetam for a while. I have just begun on a part time assignment. I work from home as content writer for a start up non profit organisation. I have to conduct telephonic interviews, do write up of development projects etc. it has been slow and okay. But mostly it gives me something to do other than being in Tuhina's face all the time! :D
oh and Tuhina cut her first tooth a few days back. she's gnawing and nibbling at just about anything.poor thing!
A new nanny moved into our neighbourhood to take care of a toddler . When I see her and the psyched out kid,I feel SO good about not taking the option of keeping a nanny for Tuhina, Every single moment of frustration about quitting my job now seems worth it.
The monsoons have taken a break in Mumbai but the mosquitoes haven't! luckily we use a mosquito net at nights which has been very very useful. Yay to whoever invented that. Our feeling is that it might have been the british who came colonising India and had to deal with its mosquitoes. who knows.
And that reminds me: I saw the film The Darjeeling Limited. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0838221/ UFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF is my reaction to it How clichéd can one get?!!! India= snake +guru+ karma+ dusky sultry women+ yogi+ mantras!!!!! oh comeon! I thought this was over in the 70s! Also I could not for the life of me imagine why the terarin was that of Rajasthan( touristy) instead of darjeeling ?It's one of these kitsch things and it seems to have a massive fan following. WHATEVER!
It reminded me about one of my professors in holland. He could not get past the image of India with a begging bowl and he donating to charities for relief work in India. He would often give that example in the discourse analysis class as an example of a narrative. Wonder if he would have liked the film?!
That's that for now! hello to all and specifically: Michel: keep the hat on! :D Bubai: hope bangalore is being kind to your health anu: fish curry recipe, the next time you come visit me niru: hope u haven't given up on xanga

| Sol kadhi I quite like this drink. it is a digestive drink mostly had with fish curry/fried fish dishes in the western parts of India, Fresh coconut and a good quality kokam can do wonders to its taste.
I first had it when Preetam introduced me to the Malwani/Gomantak cuisine some 7 years ago! I must admit , I was hesitant in trying this tangy drink at first. But the taste grew on me. My friend, Meghana ( who hails from a place near Goa called Sawantwadi) gave me her mom's recipe, very similar to the one below. And we went on to make some delicious Sol kadhi. :)
However, I soon forgot how to make it well and our recent tries weren't as tasty. But Google zindabad! I came across this similar looking recipe today( while searching for something else1) that I am posting here largely for my reference.
SOL KADHI:
1 coconut grated 4-5 kokam 2 green chilies 4-5 cloves of garlic a handful of coriander leaves salt to taste Method 1.Soak the kokam in half a cup of water for half an hour. At the end of this the water becomes a deep pink in color. 2.Grind
the coconut into a paste with the garlic, a chili and 2 kokam fruits.
Add a little water if necesary. When the paste is smooth, extract the
coconut milk. Keep grinding until no more coconut milk can be obtained.
3.Add the coconut milk to the extract of Kokam and sieve the
liquid. Chop the other chili into the liquid. Add salt to taste and
sprinkle coriander leaves on top. 4.Chill, and serve cold with fried fish and rice.

| Juno-All I want is you...If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I'd want is you to be my sweet honey bee.
And if I was a tree growing tall and greeen
All I'd want is you to shade me and be my leaves
If I was a flower growing wild and free
All I'd want is you to be my sweet honey bee.
And if I was a tree growing tall and greeen
All I'd want is you to shade me and be my leaves
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
If you were a river in the mountains tall,
The rumble of your water would be my call.
If you were the winter, I know I'd be the snow
Just as long as you were with me, let the cold winds blow
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
If you were a wink, I'd be a nod
If you were a seed, well I'd be a pod.
If you were the floor, I'd wanna be the rug
And if you were a kiss, I know I'd be a hug
All I want is you, will you be my bridehttp://www.allthelyrics.com/song/1280082/
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
If you were the wood, I'd be the fire.
If you were the love, I'd be the desire.
If you were a castle, I'd be your moat,
And if you were an ocean, I'd learn to float.
All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.
