At least in Florida, the petty and obsessive political fights the news channels report on are interesting. Like offshore oil drilling where the politicans wave around pictures of the Exxon Valdez spill and say the same but worse will happen to Florida, and then we'll lose our beach tourism, which will drain our theme park tourism, and Mickey will run out of money, and Jeb Bush won't have any more pixie dust to save his political career so he can't blind people while he steals money from social welfare programs to pay off the rich developers when hurricanes hit real estate crazed Miami/FTL and the whole state will die. Now THAT is good news.

My Cleveland Browns lost to Pitt-stink-burg. :(

My Cleveland Cavs beat my Orlando Magic. :)

In Assembly hall I found my watch sitting under my seat during the marketing exam. I hadn't even realized I left it there during the finance exam on Friday. That was nice. The test wasn't. Although I think I did pretty well, especially with the curve.

Three days until (temporary) freedom.

Tuesday, November 08, 2005

Icore finals week! Yikes. Starting immediately after this post, I am cutting off communication to most people I know. Need to study without distractions. And try to fight the Italian bureaucracy for a visa. As Prof. Rubinstein would say, "so yeah. good. let's move on."

Amazing Race is getting better. Costa Rica/Panama was fun, it was cool seeing the places Pete and I went to during Spring Break 2004. Like the airport. And the Metal Church (which I didn't even realize was made of metal. Haha.) A shame they didn't get to stay longer at the Grand Canyon, that place is amazing. Sigh. I should make a trip back there.

One comment from the show pissed me off. Team Florida at the end complained about how hard it was for them to run the race in a "Christian way," and that the other teams don't respect them. We'll ignore that they're the most un-Christian-like team on there (which, by the way, is a horrible phrase in itself....i mean come on, any ethical decision is automatically solely Christian? Jews and Muslims can't make ethical decisions? anyway...)

What pisses me off more is when some select Christians pull the "Christian card" and complain about how hard it is to live a Christian life in a university, town, country, etc., that is trying to deride, oppress, or stop them from doing so. Honestly, I hear this complaint, even from some friends, more often than I hear people pull the race, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status cards combined. And I hear it more in Indiana than I did in liberal Cleveland or Orlando areas. Come on people! Your ilk control the presidency, legislature, local and regional governments...as well as the education system apparently (see: today's Kansas Board of Ed ruling), everything! You are at the height of power! Look around, some of the Christians making these claims of being oppressed are the ones doing the oppressing! Do Christians face temptation toward "evil", perhaps some ridicule every now and then from society? Sure. Every group on Earth does in some way. Do middle-class American Christians as a whole face laws banning them from financial securtiy, from job security, being arrested and detained for months based on their skin color, security from being arrested for having sex, from being whipped, tied to a post and left to die on a daily, monthly, even yearly basis? NO! Those people need to stop making up ways that they're oppressed and actually try helping out those who are around the World. I'm not claiming this is all or even a large minority of Christians. But it's a growing number, and it's pissing me off. They're sitting on a silver throne and want a gold one. If they really wanted to be "Christian-like", they would sit on a three-legged stool or better yet get off their Christian-like asses and sell the silver to help the poor build a sustainable economy. Or something. Anything but complain. Cause I'm sick of complaining about them. So there!

Haha ok, enough ranting. Time to get studying. Later y'alls.

Sunday, November 06, 2005

Rafael Sanchez, of rtv6 News Indianapolis, is one of the most annoying tv reporters I have ever come across.

Last night the tornado sirens went off. Haha, I know it's horrible but I completely ignored them. We're supposed to round up everyone and head to the basement, but I just was to tired, hehe. 'Sides, when the tornados hit Solon you could HEAR them. Like a freight train. When the sirens went off there was nothing. Not even heavy winds or rain. They say it's fight or flight. I chose sleep.

Today we bought my ticket to Milan. That alone was so thrilling. I fly from O-town to Bean town, Bean town to London, London to Milan. Most of it is overnight, which is good 'cause theoretically I should be able to sleep through it. However, last time I flew to Europe I was so excited I couldn't sleep at all so we'll have to see.

On the flip side, getting a Visa is looking to be pretty annoying. Because I'm actually enrolling in an Italian University, I have to go through about 12 extra pages of forms compared to if I just took IES classes. Then, to top that, instead of the Chicago consulate like most people I have to go through the Miami one, which has stricter rules. There's a distinct possibility I may have to fly to Miami as soon as Icore finals are over since I have to apply in person. Urgh. But it'll be worth it, I know.

After that Aaron and I went on a bar crawl with Naomi and Zach - Nick's wins for best subdued atmosphere, don't have a favorite upbeat place yet. I've discovered I love Woodchuck Cider. I dunno why.

Next morning Aaron and I headed back to the OH and Cedar Point. We forgot about the time change, lost an hour, got stuck in traffic, and therefore got there around 2. The lines were INSANE. I've never been there when it's been so crowded. 2 hour wait for Millennium, 1 hour for Raptor. Oh well. We still hit the major stuff, and it was nice just to walk around that heavenly place with the boy. On the way back near Findlay (Aaron was driving, me sleeping...typical lazy me) all of a sudden the truck lifted off the ground and came back down with a thud. I almost crapped my pants. Turns out Aaron had run over a deer (we think) at about 70 mph. Oy. When we got back I was welcomed by this grisly sight:

My residents had stolen and hung Mickey! The horror! Sunday Aaron and I just relaxed around the room, and went out to Olive Garden where finally I was able to drink the wine in those curvy bubble bottles I've been fascinated with since I was little. I'm a big fan of Riesling. Then we came back and watched Kill Bill (bday gift), and he went home while I read up on Italy/Europe with the bizillion or so travel books that I have gotten from family members.

Today it's back to the grind, Icore classes for only two more weeks! Yikes!

Friday, October 28, 2005

yay it's my 21st birthday yay i'm 21! thanks to my supervisors for a great time, thanks to jefff and cru, thanks to everyone tonight! Wooth1!!! hoorya for singing karacoke and thriller close to halloween1 hoorya to my parents to writing and sending me mickem mouse stuff and hooray for diesney1 horray for everyone BOOOOOOO!!!! tonight as in tomorrow but it's till my bday thanks ina dvnace to maomia and zack and of course my UNO YOUR ROCK UNO! HERE:S TO Cedar point AND LOTS OF GREAT TIMES UNO! FUCK ICORE I hate my rroup but i love teter and uno and jake all the other ras and clara especially and everyone elsee wooooooooo! happy 21st everyone!

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

How pathetic. Stupid Texans. Watching game 3 of the World Series in Houston made me so friggin' angry. There it was, the 14th innning of the longer game in series history, and any time the camera panned to Houston fans they were...sitting. SITTING! Who sits down during a World Series game, let alone one where you're 2 games in the hole, one out left, etc.? Pssh. And then they sit there and complain about how they had to open the roof of the stadium to the "freezing" 46degree air. This just proves why Houston shouldn't win this. Chicago should win by default on account that they actually have a resemblance of real fans. As much as I dislike Boston and the Yanks, at least their fans participate in the game. In the end, the fans showed that it is, after all, ok to mess with Texas.

Thursday, October 20, 2005

Note to self: Never call parents a few days before the strongest hurricane ever recorded is about to hit the Sunshine State and possibly Central FL to boot. No good things will come of that conversation.

Hmmm, some of my residents are going to the intelligent design speech dressed as pirates (don't ask) and to laugh at all of the CRU and/or fundamentalist people. I would join them, but I dunno if intelligent design proponents and pseudo scientists are worth my time. We'll see.

Sunday, October 16, 2005

Ciao!

I got a card from Mickey Mouse! He also had all of my old managers, and to be managers, sign it. That company has their schiznit together. Six Flags and Cedar Point never sent me a bday card. I really really want to work for Disney as a career.

Speaking of bday, Aaron and I are heading up to CP on that Saturday. I'm so excited! Just going there will make it a great bday, forgetting about the bars and being 21.

Aaron's here. We're watching tv/studying together. I missed this. This...domesticity. I didn't know I did. However, it's nice, and comforting. My residents keep walking by, and I can hear them speculating to each other as they pass about who he is. Makes me even more excited to be living off campus next year. (Don't get me wrong though, I love my floor, I just also love not always being under the spotlight.) Also, Kylie finally met the man that has been butting in on our marriage, haha. Apparently she has tried to stirke back by also dating a boy. She can't outdo me. My wifey will be sorry. :)

Not a good sports weekend, all of the teams I've been watching have lost. Indiana, Penn State, Browns, Notre Dame, etc. Even teams I kinda dislike have been winning. For instance, Houston. No Texas team deserves to win. Just what Texans need. Another thing to be obnoxious and arrogant about.

Francesca and I bought Megan's bday gifts today. We got everything all boxed up and ready to go at the UPS store, and then they told us the price: $170! For a 2.5 pound package! Crazy. We'll try USPS later. If it's still ridiculous, we'll just ship it to Montana and Megan can get it there.

My parents really seem to be enjoying retirement. Every time I call they're off doing something, seing some play, making some weekend (or weekday, now that it doesn't matter what day) trip with friends. I'm really glad for them, that they retired relavtively young. They worked too hard before to be one of those people who retire really old and by that time don't have the capability to enjoy their golden years.

My aunt and uncle are also moving up to Orlando from Fort Lauderdale. That should be good, means I'll get to see them a lot more.

Finally, congrats to my buds Aaron and Kristing for completing the C-bus, Ohio Marathon. I believe, based on their posted time on it's website, that Kristin qualified for the Boston marathon. We'll see. Congrats either way!

GO IU!

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

Woot! Guess who got accepted and will now be spending the spring semester of 2006 in MILAN, ITALY! That's right, ME! Wahoooooooooo!
