| my poor coworker who had the cortizone shot in his spine trudged into work this morning at 10:45. he said he couldnt stand up straight this morning and called his doctor for prescription refill of his pain killers but no one returned his calls. poor guy!! i could tell he was in pain.
having experienced a similar back problem i can definitely empathize with him. it happened one time when i went to pick up a basketball and heard something pop in my lower back. later that day i couldnt stand up straight. everytime i tried to straighten my back, pain would shoot up my back. i had to walk around hunched over like an old man. and it just so happened that day my cousin visited from NY and we went out to dinner with D and E at a chinese buffet place. i didnt want people to think that i was a freak so i tried my hardest to keep my back straight while walking to and from the buffet station and our table. it was hard and extremely painful. fortunately, after a few days the pain went away and i could straighten my back again... ahhh....

| continuing from yesterday's blog on my coworkers.... so partime p sent an email to everyone onetime that he was working from home. in the email he said "i have a few errands to run today so i'll be working from home." we all thought WTF.... it was outrageous! some of the coworkers started making fun of him, and rightly so. they would say "p, dont let work get in the way of your errands" or "hurry up. let's play basketball now because p has errands to run later."
i've never seen anyone who has abused the company's telecommuting and flexible hours policy as much as he has. there were also countless times when he said that he needed to leave early for appointments. not to mention the numerous hours he has spent on the phone talking to his friends(pig and dog friends as the chinese phrase goes). so you understand that i've come to look at him with deep loathing and disdain. you would too if you were in my position.

| a while ago i complained that one of my coworkers was a lazy bum who didnt have very good work ethic. he would come to work at 10:30 sometimes 11:00, take a two to three hour lunch, and leave work at 5:00pm. well, the rest of the company has caught on to his shenanigans. we've even given him a nickname: part time p. hahaha... his days are numbered.
one of my coworkers who has chronic back pain is finally gonna get it..... he's getting an epidural shot to numb the pain so the doctors can give him a cortizone shot right at the problem spot in the spinal cord. we all joke that he's being put down today.
another coworker who was working on his wife's car this weekend got solder in his eye. ouch...

| i am super exhausted... i just came back from our second day of playoff tennis. it was another hot and humid day and playing indoor didnt help much either. our first opponent was all season club from acton, ma. i played #1 single and i lost badly, 6-1, 6-2. sigh.... i was a bit embarrassed by the score. but unfortunately my opponent played a lot better than me. he hit the ball with little or no spin and it stayed down low so it made it difficult for me to attack. he also chased down all my shots and made me hit the extra shot which sometimes i missed. he gave me a taste of my own medicine because that's usually the style i play, chasing down all of my opponent's shots.
we lost in #2 single, #1 and #3 doubles as well hence we lost our team match 4-1.
our next match was against bsc wellsley, the strongest team in our group. they pretty much had it all wrapped up barring some extraordinary situations because they won their team match earlier in the day by the score of 4-1 and the day prior they beat all season 5-0. so unless we beat bsc wellsley 5-0 and all season beat lakeville 5-0 there was no way they could lose. out of our pool of four teams only one moves on to the next round.
i got bumped down to play #1 doubles on account of my humiliating defeat in singles. my partner, nelson and i told ourselves to have fun and just enjoy the moment. our opponents were pretty good doubles players. they were like a fucking wall at the net. everything we hit they got it back to us. we unloaded on them but still they put the ball back in our court and the balls coming back werent sitting up high so we could take a second wack at them. i felt a bit demoralized. they took the first set 6-1. in the second set they were a bit more human, making more errors and missing easy volleys. nelson and i kept it close and we took them to a set tiebreaker which we won 7-5. since we split the first two sets the third set was to be decide by yet another tiebreaker but this time it's first to ten points, win by two.
for the first time in the match, my partner and i thought we could pull off the win. it was just ten points standing between us and the win. they led briefly in the beginning but we quickly closed in to tie the score. this went on until the score was tied 7-7 when they won two quick points to make it 9-7. on their match point, my partner's volley sailed long. our opponents were relieved. one of them fell to the ground in celebration or exhaustion.
"great playing guys!", one of them said. "yeah, you guys played really well. you guys played awesome at the net. and good luck tomorrow", i said with the knowledge that they had moved on to the next round as we shook hands with both of them and then with my partner, nelson.
i was exhausted but i was glad that this grueling day had come to an end. hahah.... we found out that as a team we beat them 3-2 since our #1 and #2 singles and #3 double won their matches.
usta league playoff is tough. the tight schedule combined with the tough condition of playing indoors with little ventilation makes it ridiculously stressful on the body. in addition, all the teams that made it to the playoff have been the best in their division so all the matches are that much more competitive which puts even more stress on the body. after playing six tough matches in two consecutive weekends has done a lot of detriment to my body(i played an indoor tournament last weekend). i feel my body is quite fragile and it can fall apart at any minute. that's a sure sign of age. =(
