| may 19 2008today started with chris's 2nd post op visit with the surgeon. we got to see xrays - wow. he's doing really well (in fact, we just realized he hadn't taken a pain pill since 6:30am this morning). the next 6 weeks are more of the same; lots of walking, limited lifted (10 lbs) & no bending. he gave him a couple of stretches to work on but that's about it.
we walked around downtown naperville for a little while & i played with my new, very awesome, camera (that a lot of people chipped in on - thank you!). by the way, today is my 30th bday. yup. i'm 30!
we went to lunch @ heaven on seavon & had gumbo (yum yum & yum)...and then chris took me to get a mani/pedi (spoiled). then we came home & he had organized a little suprise party (so sweet). it was fun. we're cooking dinner now - i gotta go flip the steaks.
i'm so blessed.

| ice boxesthings are good here @ the gillott house. chris is doing well - stretching those pain meds out a little more each day. he's wonderful - i think the next few weeks/months will be challenging in that he'll want to help with things more & be more independant...but he'll still need to take things slowly.
we've been blessed with tons of dinners made by junior & senior high youth leaders. they really have been amazing. we've got those leftovers & other food stuffed in both freezers (and the fridge is pretty full, too!).
we had a power outage yesterday morning. all day. until this morning at 8am. (there was a fire @ a substation - knocked out power to 13,000 folks in plainfield). it really wasn't the end of the world - just frustrating with the food. chris had a good idea - so i brought a trunk-load of food to the church & put it in the youth's chest freezer. i was pooped, but so thankful we weren't going to lose all of that food. we walked around the neighborhood last night - it seemed to bring all of the neighbors out...sharing stories & whatnot. it was kinda fun. we went home lit the house up with candles and read for a while. then went to sleep (to the sound of the one annoying generator in the neighborhood). it did seem that our neighborhood was the last on the list to have power restored, everything around us was lit up. oh well, right?
we got up this morning & the power came back on around 8am. we got ready for work & actually went to the office today! we worked there for a few hours & then had lunch with joy. i loaded the trunk up again to bring all the food, safely, back home.
we got home & ... the power was out again. had been for most of the day. grrrrr...
i pouted for a while. and then started looking for food receipts to prepare my claim form that i was going to send to the electric company - about an hour later the power came back on.
sigh. thank the lord.
i unloaded the trunk & i think most of our stuff is OK. as soon as things clicked back on i checked the temperature...we had about 1 or 2 degrees to spare before we had trouble.
thank you jesus for taking care of us :).
i'm pooped tonight!
but thankful.

| i'm such a slackerslipping into my old ways, i guess - almost a week since i last wrote...such is life .
the last week has been very busy. it's missions week @ our church, which is HUGE, so we tried to make it to as many of the festivities as possible. it's so great to get to talk with the missionaries & hear what God is doing in different parts of the world. awesome.
we said goodbye to lana, brian & nathaniel on monday. they are officially in savannah, georgia now. it was good to spend the day with them (and my wonderful mother who made hooked-up greek soup). i held it together pretty well for the actual farewell, but have cried several times since. i'm very happy for them to be in (what we hear is) such a wonderful city. it'll be awesome for brian to have this new job & for lana to have the freedom to be with nathaniel!
it's a little cooler here this week (and still very windy). so we've actually gone to the gym so that chris can walk on the treadmill. it's nice b/c he doesn't have to worry about bumps, dips or un-even sidewalks. we did 3 miles today in one walk - that was the goal he needed to meet by the next time we saw the doctor. he seems to be feeling better...we're stretching out his pain medicine a little longer lately. he feels very encouraged about that.
please continue to pray for him (us). the next 3 weeks will surely bring new challenges of their own. our pastor, who had a major neck spinal fusion recently, keeps telling us that the battle lies in his mind for a good part of the coming weeks...that it can be pretty tough mentally & emotionally (for us both). we've experienced a little bit of that here & there - we're taking it one day at a time, though. and all is well.
we're going to go to church tomorrow - for the whole morning.

| walmart is awesomewe've had such beautiful weather since chris's surgery...today, though...much colder & very windy.
chris's broad torso basically serves as a kite while it's windy
(by the way, today we watched "the kite runner" - rented it from the redbox - very good movie).
so...we decided to go to walmart, just down the street, and walk...
every aisle.
we managed to log 2.2 miles INSIDE WALMART. (my cellular telefono has a pedometer...priceless)
and all we bought was a pack of tissues...b/c chris is still a little stuffy.
we had fun. it was much better than fighting the cold & the wind :).
there was the kid in the toy aisle who was turning 10 years old & using all of his convincing tactics to beg his mom for the darth vader action figure.
and there was also the smell of fried chicken...walmart fried chicken is awesome.
we walked the baby aisle 2 times. i'm surprised we didn't run into someone from church who would then start fun and exciting stories about the gillotts.
our pace slowed during the electronic aisles... those gillott boys, they love electronics...

| doing wellchris is doing well; we actually went to church last night for a little bit! everyone was happy to see him so soon - and it was great to get to see everyone. i think it was pretty tiring for him to be out and about for a few hours, though!
he doesn't seem to be in more pain than normal after the fall the other day. praise God. it could have been so much worse for him; he was certainly protected.
he is a little sick, but we called our very cool doctor and got some antibiotic going - nothing major, just a little irritating :).
a little rainy here today; we'll have to dodge the drops on our walks today.
