Hi. SLR camera? If you're looking for a beginner SLR, stick with Canon Rebel XT or Xti. The Xti is the newer version (compared to Xt)...but they are basically the same. 8 megapix and 10 megapix... not much difference there (unless you are going to blow your pics up huge!!!) . Just get the cheaper one.

If you're willing to pay a little more, The Nikon D80 (or cannon 30D) is really nice. (the body is just heavier...which I perfer). But this camera is a little more advanced. The D40 is Nikon's Beginner model...I don't know much about it...but I here it's good.

Go to the store and just hold the cameras to see which feels better in your hands. After you buy your camera, if you ever want to upgrade...just buy better lenses. ( or different lenses to get specific pics..macro, wide lense, etc).

I'm sure you can buy it cheaper somewhere, but I like to buy my stuff at costco. Everytime I return my camera there, they always accept them back. I know their website sells the rebel for $700-800 (with a lense)

hi again. I was on Amazon.com and they were selling the Xt for a little under $600. (w/ lens). I know costco also sells the Nikon 40D for $600 (but it's only 6megapix). Are you looking for something that costs less? :)
