Warren G should thank God every night that he got Nate Dogg to sing on "Regulators".

I went to a skating rink in SW LR last night, and there was a guy on roller skates in the middle just dancing to the rap songs.  We also scored some free nachos.  I also went to a high school football and felt a major sense of nostalgia, the good kind.

I leave this week for Austin.  It should be a week full of music.  I'm going to try and catch Mad Happy Monday night here in LR, then I'm going to Fayetteville Tuesday night for Conor Oberst and Jenny Lewis, then my plane leaves Wednesday for Austin.  Thursday night we might go see Mates of State, and then ACL is Friday-Sunday.

Things are well with me.

I went to Dallas this weekend.  It seemed like a bad idea what with Hurricane Ike supposedly heading that way, but we did it anyways.  I woke up Saturday and one of my hosts was gone to work and the other was still asleep, so I walked down a pawn shop and then over to Good Records to pick up a few new things.  It was sprinkling when I got there, and this guy that worked there was supposed to be setting up for an in-store performance, but was freaking out because he thought the weather was going to get real bad.  I went over to Taco Cabana, and while there it started raining pretty hard.  I called Austin to come pick me up, but a few hours later, it had stopped raining and the skies were clear.  Apparently Ike hooked majorly and pretty just missed Dallas altogether.  When I got back to Little Rock, a power pole down the street had snapped in half and I still don't have power, although pretty much all the rest of Little Rock does.

The reason for the trip to Dallas was a Mogwai show, and they did not disappoint.  Some of the quietest and loudest parts I've ever witnessed at a show were both during their set.

There are two older gentlemen that are brothers that go to the church I live in.  They love science fiction, graphic novels, and reading about stuff on the internet.  They are an absolute experience to be around.  This morning I woke up early to go pick them up for church, and found out that there was a potluck after church today (they have one once a month).  I didn't get home until really late last night though, so I decided to go back to sleep.  I eventually woke up and went to see if they needed a ride back home and found the fellowship hall full of elderly people (the church congregation) wearing silly hats.  I have no clue what was going, but I grabbed a plate of food and sat down for a game of bingo.  The prizes for winning were leftover things from a church rummage sale.  Things that no one else wanted, and things that were probably brought by the people playing bingo to get rid of in the first place.  I will never say that old people don't know how to have fun ever again.  Silly hats, food, and bingo make for a great time.

I also listened this morning to two black men on the radio discussing education.  One believed that black people had no chance of receiving an adequate education, the other believed black people didn't have the resolve to get an education (I believe the topic was how did Obama overcome the system).  I went to a small school that was around 80% black.  A few of my classmates graduated with high grades from there and have gone on and done very well in college (black and white).  Most of the others (black and white) just didn't care at all about school.  Before, black people didn't feel like college was an easy option for them, therefore they didn't care about high school or even earlier.  I think we are past that time, but the feeling still remains.  One of the gentlemen on the radio commented that it was still harder for black men to fit in in college because of white authority figures (which I think is a tad extreme, but not completely off), but what about all the black colleges that exist now?  I think willpower is the main obstacle now (and this goes for all races).  Everytime I hear something about medical school, pharmacy school, or major college professors, I hear about brilliant Asians.  They have a different culture, one with much more determination and dignity.  Yes, poverty is cyclical and black people born in the wrong neighborhood still continue to get terrible educations, but I think opportunites are far more plentiful now, and I pray that willpower will return to young people.  I will also agree with my parents and continue to put a lot of blame ON parents.

I got to hang out with Mark last night for the first time in quite a while.  We went to see Mouth of the Architect, Behold...the Arctopus, and Intronaut last night.  Simply put, it was awesome.

I'm heading to Louisiana this weekend.  I haven't been to Mansfield in a while.  I'll hang out with my parents for a bit, and then Saturday night I'll head back to Shreveport for McPeters' wedding.  Should be a major reunion of sorts.  Maybe a reunion of the North/Central Louisiana Christian Music Scene of the Early 2000's, or something like that.

Small group is getting started back again for real this week.  We just kinda hung out last week and caught up on how everyone's summer was and stuff.  I'm looking forward to it because I missed it quite a bit when we weren't having it.
