Currently Listening
This New Day
By Embrace
The End is Near
see related

I can't believe its not U2!!

Let me just say that I SO knew that Crystal Ball was gonna be Keane's next single. I SO knew. Therefore, I win. It was already one of my favorites on the album.

All I will say about my vacation is that it was hell on a stick. And I saw Pirates twice. And I am a pirate. And I had really strange dreams while I was there, which I'll describe some other time when my dad is not baking a pizza in the kitchen and the enticing scent of cheese is not wafting into the dining room.

Now...

I'm not QUITE sure how I feel about my new Embrace album...I like it of course, but I don't have an opinion comparing it to Out of Nothing or anything. But I can say some stuff about the songs, like, Nature's Law was the first Non-U2 song to break my Top 25 Most Played playlist. And that was before I got the album, when I was so desperate I got it on Limewire. Plus, the 30 second clip of that video on iTunes was the main reason I was so desperate for that album. And this song The End is Near IS Mercy. It is. I swear it. Go listen to it. Its Mercy. (That, by the way, is a compliment of GARGANTUAN proportions). And Exploding Machines reminds me of the video for Talk (Coldplay). IF it turns out to be a single, which is rather likely, it would be very much a missed opportunity if there were no robots in the video. And machines exploding during the chorus.
And I watched a video for one of their early songs, One Big Family. I'm telling you, its totally a ZooTV video. There's flashing colors, people dancing, randomness, camera grabbing, and FLY GLASSES. I kid you not. There's freaking Fly glasses in that video.
And its not U2?????

PART ONE//USELESS TRIVIA

1// Name the 6 original members of the "Feedback"

Paul Hewson (Bono, duh), Dave Evans (Edge, duh again) Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton, Dick Evans, and Ivan McCormick.

2// What now well-known band opened for U2 during the European leg of ZooTV?

um…well I know The Ramones opened in Spain…they're well known...

3// Name 3 people Mirrorball Man or MacPhisto made phone calls to at the end of ZooTV.

George Bush (first one), taxi service, and pizza delivery service

4// What was the original opening line of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" that The Edge came up with?

dunno

5// Larry wrote a song for the Irish national football (soccer) team called "Put 'Em Under Pressure". What Year was this song released?

1990

6// Name the song featured on Rattle and Hum  that Bob Dylan co-wrote.

Love Rescue Me

7// True or False: On St. Patrick's Day (March 17), 1977, U2 won a talent contest in the town of Limerick, and received a £500 prize.

True

8// Name 2 songs Bono wrote with his mother in mind.

I Will Follow and Mofo (I didn't put Tomorrow because he said that even though he wrote it about his mother's funeral, he didn't realize it at the time)

9// What song was played over the PA system before U2 take the stage on the Vertigo Tour?

Wake Up by Arcade Fire

10// who the hell are these people?!

tell me, from left to right!

That would be Guggi, Bono, and Gavin Friday.

11// Larry Mullen came up with the bass line for which song?

Um....no idea

12// Name 3 U2 songs that contain a language other than english in them.....and tell what the language is.

hm…Vertigo (Spanish), Gloria (Latin…does that count?), and Zooropa (German)

13// Who came up with the name "U2" anyway?

Steve Avarill..

14// Which band member was acting as manager before Paul McGuinness?

Adam Clayton

15// Name the song that Edge and Adam switch instruments for.

40

PART TWO//COMPLETE THE LYRIC

here's how this works, i type a lyric from any song, and then you type the line that follows it.

1// take the chords of my imagination...Take the scent hanging in the air (PS its colors not chords)

2// slight of hand and twist of fate...On a bed of nails she makes me wait

3// it was one dull morning...Woke the world with bawling I was so sad

4// there's no room, there's no space to rent in this town….You’re out of luck, and the reason that you had to care, the traffic is stuck and you're not moving anywhere

5// The end is not as fun as the start.....Please stay a child somewhere in your heart

Very quick.

I'm leaving for Cape May tomorrow, so leave me lots of comments for when I get back! No computer/internet. And we...might have a TV? Stupid beach house.

My Embrace album came! And guess what! Its in Chinese!!!! Yayyy!!!!!!
......

Oh well. Still the same songs. Just lots of Chinese on the case. Which, by the way, is AWESOME. Its the special limited edition and its all gold and shiney....woot.

And its two discs, the first is 18 songs, the first ten are the actual album, the last 8 are the first 8 from their last album. The second disc is 17 tracks and the first 13 is the collection of singles and then 14-15 is the last two tracks on their last album. And the last two are two random songs from their first album. I don't get it either.

Tootles.

Me: What?
Rocky: A FDRRAAA!AAN!NNGGGG!!!!!!!!

Customer at work: Do you take Canadian money?
Me: No....eh?

I FOUND A COPY OF THE GOOD WILL OUT IN A RECORD STORE ON SOUTH STREET!!!!! This makes me so happy! They also have Drawn From Memory and If You've Never Been. I'll go get those soon. *sob* Fuck you iTunes! You make my life exceedingly difficult! I got lucky with The Complete U2, every thing was right there and I could just get it. So why can't there be a Complete Embrace? But no, barely any of their stuff is available in the US store. I was in the UK store (Can't buy anything, but can look), and they have 16 versions of World at Your Feet. 16!!! Now where am I going get all those??? Tell me that!!!! And the B-Sides...OH the B-SIDES!! Where oh where am I ever going find them??? This is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night...

By the way, its the same record store where I got my vinyl Unforgettable Fire, and so when I was there last night I got some version of the Fire single. Called R.O.K. Why? Because it was there.

And its hard to hold a candle in the cold November rain.
