Immigrations Vs Work

Immigrants what are they? I have
asked myself this question plenty of times. Houghton, Mifflin. Dictionary of
the English Language. 4th ed. 2000. Adds, a person who leaves one
country to settle permanently in another. Why would a person do such a thing?.
Leaving his/her home behind and starting all over in an alien world. A place
where your neighbors look nothing like you and speaking in a tongue that seems
impossible to grasp. Why would an individual go through such an ordeal?. It
could be for their kids, their families or to escape poverty. I moved from India to the United States when I was very
young. I had turned nine, a month after I moved to America. Those questions wondered
my mind all the time. I could read and write in more languages then my
classmates and even some of my teachers, but struggled in English. I felt that
everyone one was speaking really fast. I some times couldn’t comprehend what
was said. I kept wondering what the am I doing here. I had always told to study
hard. America
is a land of opportunity. Any ordinary person can become a big shot, if he puts
his nose in the book. I realized that this was us, my brothers and me. All
these changes were for us. To give us a good start in life. This is common in
immigrant families. Many immigrants families move to America knowing that their will be
hardship they must face in order for their kids to have a better future.

Immigrant’s workers don’t expect a
lot. Usually starting off in the fast food industries such as Mc Donald’s, KFC,
Taco Bell or some times working in restaurants. Many immigrants start their new
lives in places such as these. Working in the fast food industries is usually stressful
because of long work hours and low wages. Some Immigrants are just driven to
the fast food industries because there are others just like them. Some might
work at KFC because their might be others from their country or speak their
language which could make them feel more at home (Country which they came
from). This was exactly why I picked my first job. I worked at Akbar (Indian
restaurant) for three years. That’s the longest I ever worked in one place. It
wasn’t because the pay was good but because it made me feel more at home and
the only other place I spoke something besides English. I had a good
relationship with my managers. Some do not choice to work in fast food
industries. They do not have to suffer the same fate as others. They start off
investing in a store or a business. Then in a few years, start a business with
the money they’ve invested. Those that start a business are lucky, but many
immigrants know their fate in the work industry.

Those immigrants that are too proud
to work in fast food industries because they feel as if they are over qualified
for such a position. They may have
master degrees in multiple categories and had a job they were proud of in their
home. Those individuals soon realize that they have no choice but to work for
low wages and suck up their pride if they are to feed their children. In “Work
Makes Life Sweet,” Bell Hooks writes Brilliant black women hold themselves back
they refused to be proper subordinates (777). This can also be said about some
immigrants. They hate the idea of working for a manager who finished high
school and may be spent a year or two in a community college.

Last weekend was great I went to a UMBC party. Me, farhan my boy from
high school faisal shows up at the party with his crew. The first half
of the party was weak because not a lot were there. You know how it is.
So we went in the back and had our own party we were
in a room with speaker desk in the front. We took
turns singing. For indians it's like the show (sa re ga ma pa) for
americans it was like american idol but we sang and we judged.

I feel really bad for what I did to my friend for the first of the
party when I was bored. I let my friend prank call her. The problem
wasn't my friends number it was her mother's. I didn't know. Apperently
She got into a lot of trouble for that. So I sorrrrrry. I need to find
her and apolgize personally. That was so childish of me. There a
boundry and I think I crossed it.

Me and farhan went to a party on saturday (indian party) I wans't what I expected but what the hell. It was ok since i had not gone out and had a good time since college started. We were suppose to go to a after party but I forgot my keys( bad luck)and I had to wake up at four in the morning and I usually don't go to sleep after that. I only had three and half hours of sleep. That's well below my recommended sleeping time of eight hours.

Also I haven't worked out in almost 3 weeks and I feel like I am losing my six pack.

Friday, October 07, 2005

Man this ramadan thing really making studing hard had trouble concentrating in math I really need to get a A in all class.¹
I seen all my people from high school my boy antonio, jhef, lu, jill, josh, brain, farhan, tim and tiffini.
there are lot of people that I
know here some I haven't seen for mabe 4 or 5 years. People from
hammond like tom medo, tavon, justine taweel etc.
There are alot distraction but also a lot of great things. HCC is great
for anyone who want a good start or if you had a bad one it's also a
good way to clean it up.www.howardcc.edu/
that's the website to my school if you want to see.

what i like most about my college is the verity of people in the
school and age next to me is someone who is 60 years old and wants to
be a nurse. She very inspering in my opion she must be from africa. She
does not have good english. she is not very smart but she is a really
hard worker in math when the professor is talking and teaching some
thing new she doesn't understand she ask and ask. since I sit next to
her she ask me I am good in math but a horible teacher. I tried my best
and 4 or 5 times she understood. I mean you have to meet her I use to
be neverous when I started college but now not as much.

As long as I am focused I know I be an engineer.
It's pretty cool how every one I know also wants to be an
engineer.Antonio, lu , Jhef are all in the engineering program with me.

I slept at 11
oclock and woke up at 2. I was having the weiredest dreams last night.

I woke up at about 6 this morning to drive with my dad. He been
teaching me the highways. I don't understand why some people think
driving is so hard but I think it's one of the easyest thing I ever
tried. Especally parking I never messed up with parking nevermind I
messed up once that was the part my mom failed 6 times.

today I met a lot of assh****. The people who know me will tell you
that I am a nice person who rarely ever gets mad but for some reason
The area I went to today pushed me of the edge. which ended up in me
calling one of them a bitch and the other guy he was a different case.

Dont you hate it when people are lieing to you . you know that it's a
lie from the beginning. First let me explain what my job is. I work for
a company called pinnecle Energy it;s not what it sounds. It's a home
improvement company. My job is basically to talk to home owners and see
if they need an estimate for any outside projects such as
roof, siding, deck etc. and they must be doing this work with in a year.
I need to set up apointments with people who are interested.

anyway I come to a home and knock on the door this guy comes out. I
shake his hand introduce myself I tell him what out company does any
and he says that he is not doing any work now but is planing within a
year. First he says he doesn't do the wok himself then I point out we
have trained professionals who are in the neighborhood as we speak then
the starts cover up and lieing and says he does work him self all
i am trying to do is set up an opiontment with this guy so he can get a
free estimate. I was already in a bad mood when i got to the door he
was making it worst so I ask him a questions which traps him and he
gets caught in his own lies. So he tries to pretent he is busy and
tries to go inside. Quate" sir, this will only take a minute " he
replyies by saying as he is closing the door" well, this has
allready taken five" I reply by saying " well who's fault is that" he
nots his head and closes the door.
