A comment I made on Patricia's xanga a minute ago:

OK, so I just caught the repeat of that Colbert Report episode, and I have to say, I don't like this guy all that much. Probably because I don't agree with the one issue he's all about. I really don't think we should be pulling out of Iraq. I was against the war when it started, and I still think we shouldn't have gone in, but since we did (and last time I checked they haven't perfected a time machine), I don't see how we can just pull out. We messed up their country, and now we're gonna say, "Well, it's not going how we planned, so you guys take care of it"? Um, not so much. If American troops can't get this under control, how are Iraqi troops going to? I don't mean to sound elitist, but if the Americans can't handle it, how are less-than-qualified Iraqis going to do it? I'm no Republican, but even the suggestion of pulling out stinks of cut-and-run. I'm not sure how to fix the whole predicament, but whether we've got the wrong strategy over there and need to fix it or if it's just that only time can fix this mess, we need to see this through.
Also, just wondering, but why was Lamont saying he was committed to the welfare of Israel? It just struck me as a bit...out of place. I don't know. Clue me in.

I didn't see the show, so I can't speak to the Israel question.
But what I came to say was, I think what Lieberman did and is doing wrong is not being frank about the fact that the war wasn't managed well. The Democrats generally seem to have a concensus on this fact, and he can't seem to decide whether he agrees. (Hopefully the Democratic concensus arises not from unquestioning distrust of anything handled by Republicans but through empirical observation; but that's a different story.)
But from what I've read (in last week's Time and a CNN.com article for which I can't seem to find a link, it may have been elsewhere, all the stuff I read these days gets mixed up in my head) it seems as though Lamont is trying really hard NOT to be a one-issue wonder; Klein talks about how he gave an entire speech two weeks ago without mentioning the war. And I just no longer trust Lieberman the way I would like to, he seems to have grown old all of a sudden, Lamont feels like the "new blood" the party's looking for.
And the Wikipedia link on Patricia's xanga said that after a debate in which Lieberman asked if Lamont would disclose his tax returns, Lamont did. That's exactly the kind of thing that makes me love a politician, even if he is rich. And the pledge not to take money from lobbyists, and the whole "I'm being honest and upfront with you" when people like Lieberman are sort of hemming and hawing and not sure of what they think, is very, very appealing.

i must say i do love stephen colbert. he cracks me up.. i guess i do kind of agree with you on this one, though. we already went over there and fucked up their shit we might as well try to fix it. i think they should have some input though. we shouldn't just be like alright this is your government, american style, chock full of corrupted beaurocrats. they should set up their own government and then we should leave them alone.

Claire's xanga says she got a Beatles poster for $4 from Wal-Mart, and I think we should go poster shopping. I don't know about Wal-Mart though. I bet they'd have a large and eclectic collection, but quality would be iffy. But then, we're probably not going to use said posters for more than a semester anyways.
gimme a holler.
wanna finish up shopping Sunday?

Personally I think that the entire Iraq War thing is messed up.

I love that song (Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls)

And I agree fully with the religion/whitehouse thing--how can you have a secular nation if it's completely based upon a religion?
