| | Upon further review, I discovered that I have an additional argument to offer in favor of hiring Brian VanGorder to be the head coach of the Wolverines in the (highly unlikely) event that Lloyd Carr is shunted aside by the Michigan men. My advocacy of Coach VanGorder's elevation to that lofty perch was offered in reply to the latest BlogPoll roundtable discussion (http://paradigmblog.typepad.com/paradigmblog/2005/09/blogpoll_roundt.html).
In a quarter-century of coaching (http://www.jaguars.com/Team/Bio/2589.asp), Brian VanGorder has spent 11 years in Florida (Boca Raton Academy, 1982-1983; American Heritage School, 1984-1987; Boca Raton Community High School, 1988; University of Central Florida, 1995-1997; Jacksonville Jaguars, 2005), four years in Georgia (University of Georgia, 2001-2004), one year in Illinois (Western Illinois University, 2000), and nine years in Michigan (West Bloomfield High School, 1981; Grand Valley State University, 1989-1991; Wayne State University, 1992-1994; Central Michigan University, 1998-1999).
In addition, though, Coach VanGorder has spent 15 years coaching in Georgia and Florida, which are recruiting hotbeds. Might Coach VanGorder's ties to the Southeast serve the Wolverines well in recruiting out-of-state players from one of the most fecund sources of prep talent in the nation?
Hey, wait a minute . . . it occurs to me that I am now giving advice to Wolverines fans that may come back to bite the Bulldogs in the backside.
Never mind. Forget what I just wrote. Go with Glen Mason. Yeah, Glen Mason . . . that's the ticket!

How cool is this?
Inasmuch as we're all just guys who spend way too much time writing about college football without getting paid for it, I think it's pretty neat that the BlogPoll is attracting some attention among the mainstream news media.
Admittedly, the folks at Sports Illustrated have not yet taken note of my humble weblog (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/sioncampus/09/16/blog.index/index.html), but, while perusing the "On Campus" portion of the venerable magazine's website, I couldn't help having the same thought that passed through the Joker's mind when he was reading the newspaper article about his vigilante nemesis in Tim Burton's "Batman": "Wait 'til they get a load of me!"
