| | I talked to a representative in the transportation department at
Senator DeWine's office today. I asked him
whether the Senator would support cutting pork from section 1702 of the Transportation Equity Act to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief. He told me that Senator DeWine is saftey oriented
as far as the highways go since his daughter was killed in an automobile
accident. When I told him that I had a list of pork in front of me that I
would be happy to read to him, he responded that the earmarks in the bill are important and said that the Senator would not cut any projects in the bill.
I then talked to another representative at the Senator's office a short
time later and asked him what the Senator would be willing to cut from
the federal budget to donate to Katrina relief. He told me that there
are lots of proposals out there and the Senator hasn't reviewed them all; more importantly, he told me that Senator DeWine has not commited to any cuts in the budget.
I personally think that it is outrageous that it has been almost a month since Hurricane Katrina hit land, and Senator DeWine still hasn't finished looking over proposals.
